Jetstar travellers are seething after the budget airline's online booking system keeled over yesterday, leaving many unable to sign up for its $1 domestic seats offer.

Similar issues have reportedly plagued the airline's website since as early as 2004, despite Jetstar's promises that further capacity would be added to the site to help it cope with sudden upswings in traffic.

Their IT system is pretty cheap (as with most LCCs) ...... It is pretty easy to crash their system when it only allows 10000 connections simultaneously.

How can they assume that only 10000 people will try to buy those $1 fare, when the Jetmail subscribers is like at least 300000 people? Are they assuming that only 1 in every 30 people would sign up to $1 fare?

Anyway I am sick of these $1 fare when the system cannot cope with it at all. U never know, maybe only 500 seats have been sold as a result of their system collapsed .....

Maybe they should just make the sale at like 2am in the morning or something, at least people who are patient enough can actually buy some tickets. Also it would not affect most average people who wants to book normal fares.

Bring on Tiger!

Oh, the arrogance! (But it is a QAN group airline after all...
Wasn’t it Chairman Jackson, who regrets describing investors as “mental” from her sick bed?)

They score an own goal, then send their PR people in - to keep kicking the ball back through... on ya Jetstar!

OK

I know that with 300,000 emails, 500,000 hits per hour & only 10,000 seats, the math is people will miss out! However, there must be a more equitable system to deal with who gets in and who doesn’t?

I am left wondering if those closest to (in terms of router hops) Equinix, just get a better deal? (I also suspect, that the delays that I get resolving jetstar.com.au to a host, as opposed to jetstar.com/au, also unfairly effects my chance of connection during a "sale".)

Last time one of these sales was on I was booking a flight to somewhere the red rat doesn't fly. Of course couldn't access the JQ site to compare price, so just stuck to DJ. You'd think there'd be a way of allowing these sales to take place without affecting the everyday commerce. Even a zuji style calendar that displays available dates so the site doesn't get bombarded with stacks of requests of people trying to find the elusive dates of travel.

its a cheap publicity stunt.
10,000 seats is next to nothing compared to the total seats on those routes - the website crashing gives them extra publicity

It's been done by JQ before. Their 'Take a friend for $3' sale was due to start at midnight, I don't believe it started until 1.30-2am.

And...crash. Just remember, like everything with JQ, low expectations is the key :p .

I didn't strugge too much with the "take a friend for $3" sale... for the simple reason that I sat on the PC from midnight to 1:30am hitting refresh every 2 minutes! (availability wasn't too bad in the middle of the night either)
