On Tuesday I flew JQ from OOL to MEL and when I checked in at the airport (just in time, was cutting it close), the kiosk said it was unable to allocate my seat and that I should see a member of staff.

I went to see a member of staff and she was able to quickly issue me a boarding pass.

It wasn't until I was at security that I noticed that I had been issued with seat 3B. That's odd, because I had selected a window seat using the included standard seat selection that came included in my Plus package.

I just complained to JQ using online chat, and this is the response I got:
"I can see that you are originally on a standard window seat 16A but were provided with an upgraded upfront middle seat 3B and I'm sorry you had a disappointing experience."

Anyway I found it amusing that they called moving someone to a middle seat an upgrade. :D They did agree to a $25 credit.

I guess they charge more for "upfront" seats, which cost more than normal seat selection, including middle seats up the front.

I hate it when companies assume such preferences. Would rather sit further back window/aisle than in the middle seat.

On the flipside, they haven't yet introduced extra charge for selecting aisle or window seats .... some airlines have!
