Sensational Singapore Sale

On sale now until midnight (23:59 AEST) Sunday 06 April 2008, unless sold out prior. Sale may be extended. For travel on selected days and flights only. Flights via Darwin.

Sale fare is new JetSaver Light fare, for when you travel with carry on baggage only. Of course you can also choose a JetSaver fare for just $20 more - with the full 20kg checked baggage allowance. So whichever fare you choose, you're sure of an amazing fare! Fare listed below is in $AUD.

MEL-DRW-SIN $199
17 Apr 08 - 24 Jun 08

It's actually $356 return, base fares of $17 e/w with $322 in +++.

$40 more gives you checked luggage
$60 more gives you pre-purchased food/softdrink.

and it's a few rupees cheaper from Darwin ($8 instead of $17)

This luggage-less lead-in pricing is quite misleading and annoying. The majority of people take luggage. The next step is to lead-in your advertising with kids fares - what next???

Wow!

JQ61 Mel 1235 Drw 1630; Drw 1800 Sin 2045

JQ62 Sin 2145 Drw 0400; Drw 0610 Mel 1045

If I lived in Melbourne, I would really be tempted! On the outbound journey, the 1.5 hour break in Darwin won't be too bad at all! Can stretch legs, and use the Qantas Club:mrgreen:. The 2 hours in Darwin inbound between 0400 -0610 would not be so good!! Wonder if you can just stay on board, and continue sleeping??

I would not purchase checked luggage but would purchase food / drink on the outward journey, and vice versa on the inward journey to lug all my shopping from Singapore (and beyond) home!!

The only downside with this plan is if the MEL-DRW leg departs from the International Terminal (does anyone know this?). If it does, then there's no access to the Qantas Club in DRW, it's just 1.5 hours in the delightful transit lounge in DRW instead (with one coffee cart and a small duty free store the last time I passed through).

If it's anything like the Tiger version of this trip, the answer's no. Tiger flies one 320 from MEL to DRW, and another 320 (from Singapore) flies the DRW-SIN leg.

But as for JQ, I really don't know.

It's the one flight number JQ61 - it seems (like QF) JQ flight numbers under 400 are international.

Perhaps you could check-in ex MEL with an orange D sticker - get off at DRW, zip around and re-check in, hit the QP for 30 mins and then go back through customs. ;)

I just booked a ticket!! 24 Apr to 27 Apr. It is short but it is cheap!! I only spent slightly less than A$400!! :D

These airfares started at $17.00, but when booked they totalled $199 and $179 return. Does anyone know how the taxes are calculated? How can it be that Jetstar flies Melbourne to Singapore via Darwin in both directions but the taxes vary. Is the initial airfare of $17 just a scam and some of hte airfare costs is hidden and sold as taxes?

Taxes will vary because there are different taxes involved. For example, any flight that departs Australia for another country will incur the A$38 AU (Australian Departure Tax), while a flight departing Singapore will incur the Singapore equivalent, which is called SG and is S$21.

So that is just a starting point for the differences in taxes.

On the issue of taxes, is there a website or other source where airport (and any other taxes) can be found? For example, I understand the tax at LHR is less than for a transit (less than 24 hours) while either FRA or HEL has higher taxes than LHR (at least I think I once heard this).

you can find most of them in the links from this page.

Flying Jetstar SIN-PER, does a QFF Gold have access to the Singapore lounge? The terms and conditions say Jetstar passengers don't have access to "associated lounges" and the QF website shows Singapore as a "Qantas Lounge" but I know it's shared with BA. Any experience? If access is possible, I'd be grateful for exampes of "partner, associated and oneworld lounges".

Should have access because even though its a joint QF/BA lounge its a real Qantas Club. (I have used my WP anytime access rights there before)
