Well, looks like Perth is in Jetstar's crosshairs. I am sure this will just be the beginning of us having to put up with Jetstart. I guess flying to Avalon is another point of differentiation.

From the SMH

Qantas-owned budget air carrier Jetstar is to launch a daily service between Perth and Melbourne in late March.

From March 28 one of the airline's new fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft will leave Melbourne in the morning and return from Perth in the late afternoon each day.

The cost of a one way flight will be $189 with a special deal of $99 available to mark the launch of the service.

Jetstar's acting chief executive Bruce Buchanan said the new service would add about 2,500 seats to existing Qantas operations between the two cities and would boost tourism in Western Australia.

In Melbourne the service will operate out of Avalon airport, which is 55 kilometres west of the CBD and 15 kilometres north east of Geelong.

Just think that not only do you now have the chance, in Perth, to experience Jetstar's superior service but also think of the good you will be doing cab drivers/companies when travelling to Melbourne by giving them the extra money you saved on the airfare. :)

Is this going to be Deathstar's longest period of paid captivity for the unfortunate - or is there a longer leg (Kiwi's don't count!) :?:

That's not even funny

:D

Obviously JohnK has experienced superior service on Jetstar.
Not trying to be funny. Just my usual sarcasm. Will let you know of their "so called" service if you ever catch me on one of their flights.

So you're a Jetstar virgin then?

Interestingly the JetFlex fare, which I understand is Fully Flexible comes in at $399 one way, which isn't too bad a fare really.

Proud Jetstar, Australian Airlines, Virgin Blue and Ozjet virgin.

Although one of these days I may end up on Australian Airlines just for the heck of it on one of these points trips to Singapore.

If the company was paying for this it would not be so bad. By the way is this full economy SC's on QF or still discount economy?

I purchased a return airfare SYD-ADL-PER back in November for travel in March for only $570 return which will yield 70 SC's. A little more attractive than a cheaper airfare without any status credits.

JetFlex is full economy for SC purposes.

QF MEL-PER: Discount whY from $249 (Red eDeal), Full whY from $626 (Flexi).

ie approx $12.45 per SC.

So the JetFlex SC rate is not too bad. Not as good as what you can get with some sales, or on some sectors, but not too shabby nonetheless.

Its more than I would pay, unless there was some other compelling reason.

Agreed. I wouldn't ordinarily pay that either, and I'd also need a compelling reason to use it.

Nevertheless, it is quite a competitive price for a flexible ticket (notwithstanding it goes to Avalon).
