A Queensland passenger on a Jetstar plane to Hobart who had drunk so much he had "no recollection of even boarding the flight" is fined for offensive and disorderly conduct, but avoids a conviction.

Do you think so? I'm surprised - I thought $4K was pretty decent and MUCH more than many covid-restriction breakers have got (ie $0.00). Or was that a silent ?

Fines are no deterrent. A week in the slammer gives them time to think about what they have done. I very much doubt that the fine will ever be paid…

I was working in Launceston last year when the NWRH closed. There was a great magistrate who if a person came before him on an escaping an isolation order would remand them in custody for 2 weeks. Brilliant.
