Jeez you must really love your tucker mate.

I regularly take the SQ afternoon flight and have 10/12 hour layover in SIN before continuing to PVG, CAN or PEK - fabulous nightlife in SIN albeit expensive - but spending a day their eating aint gonna be on my radar.

Taking an afternoon flight, then continuing on to another day flight after 10/12 hours makes sense. Taking an overnight flight at 0250 and then another overnight the next night, with only a small change in time zone does not, unless travelling to somewhere much further than PEK!

I'm surprised at the layover, but then it does open other interesting possibilities, and let's face it, if time was an issue, you wouldn't be choosing to go via SIN anyway.

A quick visit to town, and an extended length of time in the lounge, it's do-able.

You'd be surprised. In the absence of direct services, via SIN is only an hour longer than travelling via HKG or PVG, and about the same time as via SYD if connecting from VA/QF to CA ...

Wonder if this lead to other SIN add ons in the future, perhaps ICN, DEL/BOM...

Agree the double overnight flights PEK-SIN-MEL way is a shocker!

Was looking at some sale fares.. very tempting as I could get return PEK in Y for about $299 each way. Add an extra $50 each way for SC's and points and it was a cheap $700!!

So I wonder how long it will take for a pax to roll up for check in without a visa?
Good point, that may impact my plan to use my MEL-SIN-PEK and just get off in SIN.

Hmmmmmm.

Perhaps the long transfer is just part of a bigger picture to eventually have more frequencies to SIN, where a delay, as I hear is common with JQ's international sectors, doesn't impact your travel plans as they can still get you there to eventually make the connection. Wishful thinking?

Have booked these cheap flights for next year and then saw the long layover time in SIN, can anyone please advise what to do, do you have to stay at the airport or because luggage would be checked all the way through to MEL can we leave the airport and go into SIN for the day, or maybe even better a suggestion for a hotel to check into close by airport and have a rest around a pool and shower before heading back to the airport for the flight home, not sure of the regulations. Thanks

For anyone who is on Chinese passport without Singapore Visa this is a shocker. They simply cannot get pass the immigration to get out to the city.

Also 2 overnight flights will be so tiring by the time you get to MEL. No way I will take this route at these timings.

Single entry Chinese visa is $80 these days. So technically still cheap with the sale fare, for anyone who want to get out at SIN and drop off the last leg.
