You don't actually need to show/scan your itinerary/receipt to anyone/anything to check-in with Jetstar domestically (unless something goes wrong/stuffs up, in which case your phone copy should suffice).

If everything goes smoothly AND you are on a flight departing T2 in SYD, then all you really need is a mobile phone (any phone capable of receiving an SMS).

1) 48hours prior to departure, go to jetstar.com, select web check-in, follow the prompts and at the end of the process opt for an SMS boarding pass. (The BP will arrive as a simple text SMS on your phone about 30 minutes later.)

2) On the day of departure, take you phone to a kiosk in the check-in area (well before the 30minute prior to departure cut off time), and follow the prompts to print bag tags & BP, tag your bags and deliver them to the bag drop counter.

3) Proceed airside (with your printed BP) via security screening to catch your flight.

OR

If you choose to check-in via human assistance at the airport (note that a charge may apply for this service after 1st November) all you need to show is your valid ID at the check-in desk and just advise them which flight you are on, you don't need to show your itinerary receipt printout.

Irrespective of whether it would be required or not, having paper print outs of all e-ticket / reservation confirmations is always desirable.

I avoid travelling without them, even though 9 times out of 10 they never see the light of day.

It's that time when you need one and haven't got it that problems can escalate.
