Hi ,

I have a flight voucher that expires later this month and a gift card with $450 that expires in mid January. I havent used them yet due to all the covid stuff. Does jetstar extend these due to covid? has anyone had any experiences with them?

If they don't extend it for you then my suggestion is to buy a ticket with a max bundle. Then cancel the ticket. You will receive a new voucher valid for 3 years and for multiple bookings however it will be in your name only and not transferable. I think a flex bundle will achieve the same thing but I haven't bought one of those bundles yet.

So do i need to book and then cancel before the expiry date of the gift card and voucher? I thought i saw somewhere on one or both of them that any changes to my bookings has to be made before the expiry of the item.

I've cancelled many Jetstar tickets (with max bundle) over the past two years and I have always received a fresh voucher with a 3 year expiry. It didn't seem to matter what my original form of payment was (including mixed payments) although I have not been in a situation where the original voucher had expired.

I think the only situation where you could have a problem is if Jetstar cancels the flight and you request a refund. They can only refund to the original form of payment which could be an issue if you paid with a gift card that has since expired. If this happens, it would be better to request a voucher instead of a refund.

Off topic but I find Jetstar's voucher system to be so easy and hassle free compared to Qantas. Qantas credit vouchers have so many conditions, restrictions and IT problems where as Jetstar vouchers are effectively as good as cash and always works online.

ok so it sounds like if i cant sell off the voucher and giftcard then i should book with Max bundle and cancel within a couple a days of booking?

Is there a site you recommend if i wanted to sell them off, I just dont know if i will be able to use them when i have so many points and credits on other airlines i still need to use.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Isn’t the voucher connected to the name? I was told Jetstar have in the past blacklisted the travellers who are travelling on bookings with someone else’s name.

I actually have seen an altercation once on a JQ flight. We were about to pushback, and after the CM realized what this bloke was doing, ie travelling on a females ticket, he was offloaded. Luckily he didn’t check a bag only cost us a couple of minutes.

No , neither are attached to my name as its not a voucher back to me after a cancelled flight. It was a gift card i purchased and the voucher i cant remember exactly where it came from. I got it a couple of years ago.

I checked with jetstar, the $25 voucher has been extended to 31st Dec 2022. The $450 Gift card they cant extend but suggested that i make a booking and then cancel the booking to get the extension made like what was suggested here.

@roi are you keen on buying them?
