Re: Jet Star 787 - Looks pretty good!

I get that the Airbus aircraft coming over from JQ are still young, and with a new fitout when most passengers step on board would be none the wiser.

Most of the AFF regulars understand that.

My point was that outside our little community of airline enthusiasts there is the perception that QF is getting hand-me-downs from JQ.

The general public isn't going to go and research this and then conclude that the Airbus metal is still good. They just make a judgement based on what they read in the newspapers.

If the Qantas "Group" wants to swap aircraft back & forth like this without the perception that JQ is getting preferential treatment - well I'd start with putting 2 logos on the first 787, running it on QF routes for a month or two before quietly shipping it over to JQ for good.

And subject QF pax to JQ seats? No thanks.

OK sure. I'm sure most of you could come up with lots of reasons why it's a bad idea.

I think my point still stands though - there's a perception issue which could probably be better handled.

Aren't the A332's plying from Perth and back JQ seats? The business class 2x3x2 with 38" legroom etc. I know the middle seat is turned into a table.

I think they're awful personally.

Re: Jet Star 787 - Looks pretty good!

I just hope that those who passionately dislike JQ (for whatever reasons) just never fly them, simple.

I am very looking forward to JQ's first 787 flights, hopefully they'll be taking off with some $7.87 tickets too. I have never flown a 787 so being able to experience the 787 first the first time ever, flying domestically rather than needing fly to Japan or even Ethiopia to experience the 787 ;) and the potential ability to use the QF F lounges (if any those flights have int. dep) then those are all good points for me.

Also JQ can now market themselves within Asia, where the market is growing, as the operator of shiney new 787's. Now that takes the stick to other competitors such as Scoot, Tiger, Air Asia et al. Also with new planes, hopefully JQ can think of new routes eg. to India which would expand their market growth, which in turn is a good commercial decision IMO.

In Y there is no issue, as the product is quite good (they are both the same apart from the colour schemes), J is the issue (they are both the same product with the latest batch of 330's delivered). It has already been noted that the 330 product will be updated in 2014, so you would hope that means 1 330 product that is suitable for both transcon and medium haul intl into SE Asia.
VA's transcon product threw a spanner into the fleet commonality logic of The QF group...

I also think some people forget what may be good for the consumer doesn't always make the most business sense...

I don't know about the A330's but Y on a JQ A320 is nowhere near as comfortable as Y on a QF 73H or pre-refurb 763.

Edit: Quick look on SeatGuru and it seems like the seat pitch and width in Y is comparable with QF on the A330s, possibly wider too.

The 320 isn't relevant to the topic. The 332's are like for like in Y from EBM onwards...

Outside of our little community - no-one cares!

The general public don't read stories about fleet planning and aircraft movements - they just get on a plane, think "oh, this looks nice and new", and that's the end of it!

Re: Jet Star 787 - Looks pretty good!

I just want to fly on a 787, at least once, don't care who the airline is.

For a short flight it really doesn't matter if its QF, JQ or VA.
It's all about the experience of checking out a new aircraft.

I could handle even SYD/HNL in this new beauty, well at least once anyway.

Compared to the non refurbished 767 I was on last time I flew to HNL, it's not a big sacrifice to make :)

Re: Jet Star 787 - Looks pretty good!

Really hope they send some of the trial flights to DRW so I can try it out, should be able to handle 3-3-3 seating on a domestic flight though I shudder at the though of it on long-haul!

Scott.

Re: Jet Star 787 - Looks pretty good!

If it is out of the paint shop, one would assume that the delivery will be soon. When could we expect to find out the delivery flight details?

Are there any A330s flying through DRW?

Just a mixture of A320/A321s. I know it's unlikely to have any international flights using the 787 due to how close we are to South-East Asia however I was hopeful that they might trial it on one of the domestic flights.

A few years back QF used A330s on the BNE-DRW route on Thursdays and Sundays, not sure of the reasoning behind this but it made a nice change from the 767s.

Scott.

Re: Jet Star 787 - Looks pretty good!

Is 3-3-3 on a 787 skinnier or wider than 3-4-3 on a 777?
