Without clicking through to read the article, I assume it's in relation to international, rather than domestic?
Yep,International figures for May.
Jestar 9.0% up from 6.1.
Singapore 8.8 down from 11.3 and Air NZ 8.7 down from 10.0 the same month last year.
BTW Qantas is at 22.4 down from 26.2 a year ago.

must be all those aussies heading to bali and thailand :)

shame they don't get JQ on the HK and Sin routes out of Sydney.

Would love soem $299 one way fares to there

There is no way in the wide world that I would fly JQ to HKG or SIN.(or any LCC for that matter).
LCC's are fine for a 90 minute flight from Mel to Syd but Hong Kong -no way.

I have more trouble trying to believe this.

I guess on basis of turnover we may have a very different story. But even on pax numbers alone I am stunned.

It's pretty easy to get market share when it's handed to you on a platter. Didn't QF hand over more routes (eg CNS-Japan, PER-DPS/CGK, etc) to Jetstar within the last 12 months?

Well anat0l you know what they say about there being 3 types of lie?;)

i've done JQ to KL a few times and it was fine. I suppose if you're used to the pointy end of the plane then things may be different. For the budget traveller I think JQ offers a decent service. Now Air Aisia and Tiger are a whole different kettle of fish

I also think the routes that have held up well - like Thailand and Bali - and the more business oriented routes have been hit pretty hard. When you look at how badly SQ has been hit with the drop in premium travel it's easy to see that JQ might have nudged in front. I'm sure if the recovery picks up that SQ will prob increase their market share.

I still find those numbers extremely difficult to believe.

So far JQ has had it very easy, as you mention, being handed routes on a platter. The proof of success for JQ will come when JQ starts services on routes not already operated by QF. If the KUL experiment is any indication then the QF group could be in for some tough times.

But if you look at the figures the QF group has gone from 32.3% market share to 31.4%.So JQ is cannilabising QF.

But the QF group went from 32.3% to 31.4% so JQ is cannibalising QF.
The big winner seems to be Pacific Blue-2.7% to 5.2%

JQ are also buying PAX, Japan based son and his daughter purchased two tickets NRT-OOL-NRT for $315 each thru a Japan T/A, including checked baggage. Last night he spoke to JQ to cost an upgrade to *Class, no prob, $125 each, including all the extras, lounge, meals, 30kgs etc.,

To me thats got to be a loss !!!

Cheers Dee
