Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

If JQi has a list of 'when things go wrong at X time in MEL, which flight do we scrub?' my suggestion is it's JQ7 and the return JQ8.

It makes sense as in theory there are three options to managing displaced pax - JQ43/42, QF35/36 and QF37/38. It used be very common for JQ pax to be moved onto QF, or even EK back when they operated the route. Anecdotally though now it seems less likely to happen and even like today, downgauging to A321 and doing a fuel stop in DRW is an option when everything is running fairly full.

In more on Thursday 18 December, B788 VH-VKB on JQ29, the 1420 hours MEL-BKK did not point skywards until 1803 hours. Arrival should be about 2243 hours, 193 minutes late. This was despite the aircraft having been in Melbourne since 0734 hours.

The BKK down to BNE JQ66 on Thursday 18 DEcember, the 2055 hours (B788 VH-VKB) took off at 0027 hours on Friday 19. Expected arrival becomes 1202 hours, 182 minutes tardy. This was because its previous flight, JQ29 from MEL to BKK took off at 1803 hours despite timetabled departure being 1420 mid afternoon: arrival in the Thai capital was 2223 hours, 173 minutes behind schedule.

JQ65 from BNE to BKK (-VKG) was also delayed yesterday, arriving at 2131 hours, 91 minutes tardy, but a quick turnaround with takeoff at 2209 hours with JQ30 to MEL means arrival is expected this morning at 1033, only 13 minutes late.

The HKT to MEL JQ18 has B788 VH-VKA with arrival forecast for 1045 hours on 19 December, 40 late.

J!Q10 (2055 hours Thursday, B788 VH-VKF) should arrive in BNE (ex NRT) at 0738 hours, 53 late on Friday 19.

In what is B788 VH-VKG's seventh consecutive flight where it has arrived (or will arrive today) between 16 minutes and almost two hours late, the overnight JQ54 from South Korea's ICN down to BNE is expected to pull in at 1003 AEST, 118 minutes late. As a result, its next task, JQ23, the 1145 hours BNE up to KIX in Japan is showing a nominal 1225 aim for pushback.

The 1140 hours SYD-ICN (JQ47) has -VKA and should depart half an hour late.

Sister -VKD is on its fourth consecutive badly late flight with the overnight SGN-MEL JQ64 having taken off at 0317 hours on 21 December, with likely arrival being 1516 hours, 255 minutes tardy.

JQ66 from BKK to BNE has B788 VH-VKE and should arrive on Sunday 21 at about 1145 hours, 135 late.

VH-VKH (another B788) arrived in ICN yesterday as JQ53 (from BNE) at 2318 hours, 203 minutes late. Instead of operating JQ54 it was tabled as JQ1048 that took off at 0135 hours on Sunday 21 for mooted SYD (not BNE) arrival at about 1327 hours. JQ54 on 18 December was cancelled as B788 VH-VKK appears to still be in Seoul after operating JQ53 on Thursday 18 December from BNE that arrived ICN at 2213 hours, 138 minutes late.

Chaos rules at JQi during Christmas holidays.

Updating the previous post, JQ23 from BNE to KIX (B788 VH-VKG) should arrive at 2205 hours, 140 minutes late.

VH-VKD arrived in MEL at 1536, 275 minutes behind schedule and is forming JQ17, the 1515 hours MEL-HKT with an odd estimated departure of 1714 hours, so it is likely to be at least 90 minutes late arriving in the Thai paradise.

VH-VKE is travelling from BNE up to BKK with arrival likely at about 2012 hours on 21 December, 72 late.

VH-VKH is predicted to depart SYD an hour late at 1725 hours on JQ61 to SGN.

-VKK remains stuck at ICN, so this must be adversely affecting JQi's offerings.

On Monday 22 December, JQ27, the mid afternoon 1500 hours SYD-HKT didn't take off until 1942 this evening. B788 VH-VKK should arrive at about 0028 hours on Tuesday 23, 263 minutes late.

VH-VKH on the timetabled 1635 hours MEL up to SGN (JQ63) was still at Melbourne Airport at 2041 hours on Monday evening.

Tonight’s JQ8 showing as cancelled due to crew requirements in the app.

That’ll be 2/2 unplanned overnight stays in Singapore for me during this trip alone.

Anyone got any tattoo parlour recommendations in Singapore? Thinking I might get “don’t fly JQ7/8” tattooed on my back 😂

Update: yep. Canceled

So I take it no offer of reaccommodation on qantas services either non-stop to MEL or via SYD/DRW/BNE etc?

Given it’s the last JQ flight home before Christmas the passengers are taking it as well as you’d expect. Let’s wait and see.

Edit: no accommodation on QF services. All pax leaving on the same aircraft at 8pm the next day.

Cancellations of JQ7/8 happen - too frequently - but not every day. As @dajop kindly agreed, if there's a problem with JQi international aircraft in MEL, these flights are first to be axed.

You are very unlucky. Don't buy a ticket in Tatts!

Is JQ putting you up in an hotel with meals, or do you have to (a) find one (b) pay?

Anyway, have a Happy and Holy Christmas even though what you're enduring must be very irritating to put it mildly. Epithets justified.

A321 VH-OYD spent overnight in MEL but this hasn't stopped the Wednesday 23 December JQ39 from SYD to DPS (the 0635 hours) from being badly delayed.

It wasn't airborne until 1008 hours, meaning a long wait for many passengers who probably rose in Sydney at 0200 hours or earlier, excited for their Balinese holiday. Arrival should be at about 1405 hours, 190 minutes late. I always feel sorry for elderly or (on this route more likely) families with young children.

It looks like this aircraft is forming JQ32, the 1130 hours DPS to MEL nominally listed as pushing back at 1410 hours, so instead of arriving MEL tonight at 2010 hours, it's a probable post-2200 hours blocks on.

On the JQ flight status page there are several SIN-MELs today. One of them looks like last night’s JQ8, which took off at 0530 Singapore time today. And tonight’s JQ8 looks like it’s on time. There are several other JQ flights as well… either non stop, or direct via DPS.

At this point they should be required by both AU and SG governments to put a warning for passengers to confirm before completing the purchase that they understand the flight has the worst performance of any flight departing or flying to Australia and that it is entirely likely you will arrive at your destination up to 48 hrs after the scheduled arrival time.

Yes… although i guess it depends on the alternative arrangements? We don’t know how many of these pax are being reaccommodated onto QF services. I’d happily take QF if offered!

Pre-covid the guy next to me was grumbling because two of his previous JQ7s had been cancelled and he was put onQantas business class. But on this day the JQ flight was actually flying 🤣

Google suggests tonight’s JQ8 will be departing early on Christmas morning (at 5:30am) arriving mid afternoon. Indeed no flights in the air right now.

Thanks!

When i checked the flight status page on my post above it had the JQ8 for 23 Dec with an 0530 departure. It’s now gone and only shows on 24 Dec. So yeah… looks like a hefty delay. Which is puzzling given they should have plenty of crew either in SIN or BKK (if it was a crew issue as reported).

JQ8 tonight now cancelled completely.

Well past time to outlaw politician access to the CL and get serious with EU261 style compensation.

Let’s hope those hoping to arrive on Christmas morning have been rebooked onto QF36 or QF38, yesterday’s JQ8 (which is now due to depart 23 hrs late) or via DPS on JQ. Seems to be economy seats open on all carriers .
