Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

In further cancellations on Saturday 25 July 2020, JQd has cancelled its only two scheduled SYD to ADL flights with JQ764 at 1130 hours and the later JQ768 at 1555 getting axed.

QFd has also cancelled its sole timetabled SYD to ADL while VAd didn't have one timetabled.

Also on Saturday 25 July 2020, JQ721, the 1050 hours SYD down to HBA has been delayed in its pushback until around 1145 hours.

UPDATE: JQ721 has A320 VH-VQH. It took off at 1210 hours, was promptly airborne at 1221 and should arrive down in HBA at 1357 hours, 72 minutes behind schedule. The aircraft had been in Sydney since 2207 hours late last night (JQ959 ex CNS), so not sure why it was delayed today.

JQ511, the 1315 hours lunchtime SYD to MEL (the only QF Group flight offered today on this important route) is predicted to depart at 1400 hours.

Continuing with Saturday 25 July 2020, JQ506 (1100 hours from MEL up to SYD) did not take off until 1204. A320 VH-VFN arrived at 1311 hours, 46 minutes behind schedule.

This was the first flight for this A320 in the past week. At least one other A320 has on some days undertaken six sectors so even for those planes not stabled, usage is highly variable.

A dull winter's day in Bleak City sees JQ774, the 0820 hours morning Tuesday 28 July 2020 MEL across to ADL not taking off until 0919 with A320 Vh-VGd. Arrival should be at about 0954, 44 minutes behind. The aircraft had overnighted in MEL since arriving at 1913 hours from HBA so not sure why this morning's delay.

Across all airlines, there are only 11 domestic flights scheduled from Melbourne Airport today, and three are tiny ZL SAAB 340B planes.

The only other JQ flight from MEL today is 506 to SYD at 1100. QFd has one flight to each of Launceston, Perth and Sydney. Unimaginable a year ago.

On Thursday 30 July 2020, JQ460, the afternoon 1325 hours from SYD up to increasingly popular BNK (A320 VH-VGA) departed at 1415, taking off promptly at 1426. Arrival was at 1528 hours, 48 minutes tardy. The aircraft had arrived in SYD on JQ506 from MEL at 1248 hours, 23 minutes behind schedule, but this doesn't fully explain the delay.

Yesterday I suggested in the QF cancellations thread that unlike QFd, JQd wasn't cancelling flights on 31 July or 1 August out of SYD.

However, this morning, it notified some, which included JQ400 and JQ810, respectively the 0600 hours and 0605 hours from SYD to OOL and BNE, as well as JQ952, the 0615 hours to CNS.

JQ420, the 1010 hours SYD to OOL has also got the boot as has JQ912 at 1040 hours to TSV and JQ790 at 1045 to MCY.

JQ824 at 1105 hours to BNE is another casualty of the Queensland border ban to Sydneysiders that came into operation at 0100 this morning.

Later, JQ418 and JQ958, respectively the 1430 and 1530 hours planned departures to OOL and CNS will also not be running, while the same is true for JQ818 at 1815 during dinnertime up to BNE from SYD.

JQ424, which was to be the last JQd flight for the day at 1835 from SYD to OOL also has the gong.

This means JQd has just five departures from SYD on 1 August: one each to ADL, BNE,, BNK, MEL and surprisingly PPP.

Sunday 2 August was to see 16 JQd flights pushing back in Sydney but a large number of cancellations means 11 have got the boot, so only five remain.

For instance from SYD up to BNE, four flights were timetabled, but three have been cancelled. The remaining flight is JQ826, the 1345 hours from SYD.

Tomorrow JQd has two flights to BNK (within NSW, so not subject to the Queensland ban on Greater Sydneysiders).

Down to MEL, JQ513 (a 1315 hours also at lunchtime) is the only JQd offering from SYD.

On Tuesday 4 August 2020 during coronavirus, JQ513 was the only SYD to MEL flight operated by the QF Group: there were no QFd flights as all were cancelled.

The JQ flight was due out at 1315 hours but A320 VH-VGV did not take off until 1421, arriving in the curfew-imposed from 2000 hours nightly southern capital at 1533 mid afternoon, 43 minutes tardy.

Its only other flight thus far for today, JQ510, the 1100 hours MEL - SYD arrived at 1223, two minutes early, so it's not clear why 'the 513' was behind time. This aircraft was not used on Saturday 1 August 2020.

Friday 7 August 2020 has JQ510, the sole MEL - SYD 'own metal' offering for tomorrow and a proposed 1100 hours ex the southern capital, cancelled.

However bizarrely it is replaced by an identically timed JQ7992. Not sure why it's received a different flight number (although sometimes the 'four digit' ones can be empty workings or specials for groups).

One other JQd cancellation on Friday 7 August was the early evening JQ461 from SYD up to popular BNK (the airport for Byron Bay).

JQ has cancelled its sole MEL - SYD flight, JQ510, the 1100 hours, on both Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 August. QF444 ran on Saturday while QF478 at 1800 hours is the only one timetabled tomorrow. Competitor VA lacks any flights from MEL today or tomorrow.

JQ513, the sole SYD - MEL flight tomorrow at 1315 hours has also got the gong.

On Sunday 9, the only JQd flights are JQ705 from MEL to HBA at 0820 hours and JQ774 to ADL at 1310.

Monday 10 August 2020 has seen JQ667, the early morning 0640 hours from BNE across to AYQ cancelled.

So was JQ485, 0815 hours BNE down to NTL.

JQ705 (0820 hours MEL down to HBA) on Sunday 16 August 2020 had A320 VH-VFJ for the second consecutive day. It took off at 0925, arrivi9ng 45 minutes late at 1025 hours.

Of a very sparse offering, this was the first domestic flight of any carrier to depart from Melbourne today. There are only five other domestic flights ex MEL topday: two QF, three more JQ and one VA. Nothing (as seems usual on weekends) from ZL.

JQ513, the sole SYD to Mel flight (!) of any operator on Saturday 22 August 2020 had A320 VH-VGA. This 1315 hours lunchtime flight took off at 1406, arriving at 1522, 32 minutes late.

Saturday 29 August 2020 has seen JQ513 (lunchtime 1315 hours SYD down to MEL, A320 VH-VGZ) not taking off until 1521 with arrival at 1628 hours, 98 minutes behind schedule. This was its first use since 23 August 2020 so no obvious reason for the significant delay. Perhaps it had to wait for connecting passengers given the paucity of flights on the vast majority of routes? As at 1930 hours, it had not performed any other duty today.

The 1345 hours SYD up to BNE (VH-VQF) was airborne at 1459, having departed at 1445. It arrived at 1614, 59 late and then returned as JQ827, the 1600 hours southbound, arriving SYD at 1839, 64 behind. It too had not been used since 23 August 2020.

JQ576, the Friday 4 September 2020 MEL up to BNE due out at 1720 this arvo (and the last scheduled domestic flight ex MEL of any carrier today) has been cancelled.

This leaves JQd with just four domestic flights (and the usual no internationals) ex MEL: one each to ADL, DRW, HBA and SYD.

CBR, LST and MQL (all turboprops, probably Q400s) are the only offerings from MEL today by parent QFd that also (as usual) has no international flights ex MEL (or anywhere else) that convey passengers today.

The State Premiers meet the Prime Minister on Zoom/WebEx today for another so-called 'National Cabinet' meeting. The latter is pushing for borders to be opened but with the exception of NSW, the Premiers refuse to do this.

Wednesday 9 September 2020 has seen JQ510, the 1100 hours late morning MEL - SYD (with only one other from each of QF and VA northbound on this route today) take off at 1207 hours. Arrival for A320 VH-VQA was at 1314 hours, 49 minutes behind schedule.

JQ774, the Wednesday 21 October 2020 scheduled 1355 hours afternoon MEL - ADL is not expected to depart until 1800 hours early this evening. The JQ flight looks like it is to be formed by JQ773 arriving (if on time) at 1730 hours from ADL.

The only other flight today to ADL from MEL is a VA one at 1215 hours, so for JQd passengers, a long wait.
