I dunno? 747s are noisy, old, run-down, less humidity. 787s new, quiet, high humidity to arrive in better shape. For economy the only downside is the seat width.
787 not quieter but I have not done dB measurement), high humidity and lower cabin altitude does nothing for me. So a QF747 replaced by JQ787 would be a downgrade - correctly due to seat width

I haven't noticed any difference either, but my main concern is irrespective of the aircraft type that the seats are wide enough, pitch is OK and perhaps most of all that the cabin is not what I perceive as 'too hot.'

So thank you for confirming what many suspect. It's just marketing hype. Grain of salt required.

Noise is a complicated subject because it is produced in varying frequencies some of which are within the human hearing range.

Most aircraft cabin noise mitigation technologies are in the purview of the aftermarket rather than the OEM.
I would rather the airline have name dropped an acoustic engineer than a cutlery designer.
Though too much noise reduction reduces privacy. Imagine being able to hear your fellow passenger’s flatulence..o_O

There are some more substantial ones “puffing” away at the moment in Kamchatka and Ecuador: ( not sure how they affect air routes - but won’t be affecting JQ - what about Kamchatka - japan?)
 
Later on 22 April 2019, A321 VH-VWY on JQ735, the scheduled 1025 hours morning MEL down to LST was not in the sky until 1623. Arrival is expected at 1721, 351 minutes late. The aircraft earlier arrived five minutes early at 1340 hours on JQ947 ex CNS, and looks to be substituting for a failed aircraft down to 'Lonnie.' It's not clear why given the latter flight was already badly delayed why it took so long for the aircraft to turn around in MEL. Did JQ have to find new crew members?

On Monday 22 April 2019, JQ518, the afternoon 1605 hours MEL - SYD (A321 VH-VWU) took off at about 1852, so will be more than 140 minutes late arriving in SYD.

JQ526 (1845 hours northbound MEL up to SYD) should depart 75 late.
 
JQ37, the 1345 hours JQi flight from MEL to SYD was cancelled on Monday 22 April 2019.

JQ17, the 1450 hours MEL - HKT on Tuesday 23 April has been altered to depart at 2130 with arrival (instead of 2045 tomorrow night) at 0330 hours (awful!) on Wednesday 24.

JQ18 will be unable to depart HKT until at least 0440 on Wednesday, meaning likely MEL arrival just before 1600 hours. This will be another result of B788 VH-VKJ continuing to sit in KIX. As oz_mark says 'still impounded.'

The unavailability of B788 VH-VKJ (on the ground in KIX since 29 March 2019) means JQ is shuffling its others of this class around. On Tuesday 23 April, JQ8992 is operating an empty ('ferry') flight with B788 VH-VKE, having departed MEL at 0757 hours bound for what looks like CNS.

Yesterday, JQ25, the 1200 'high noon' CNS - NRT was cancelled, as was JQ26, the 2025 hours evening redeye NRT back down to CNS. The day before (Sunday 21), the day flight from SYD and CNS to KIX (JQ15) also got the boot.
 
B788 VH-VKI on Thursday 24 April 2019 is operating flagship JQ1, the 1545 hours afternoon MEL up to HNL that took off at 1758. Arrival should be at 0747 hours, 92 late.
 
JQ68, the CGO - MEL (B788 VH-VKA) should arrive on Anzac Day, Thursday 25 April at 1336, 31 late.

The afternoon JQ17 (scheduled out at 1450 from MEL up to popular HKT) has been cancelled. This will be another inconvenience from B788 VH-VKJ's continuing unavailability as it sits (to use AFF oz-mark's term) impounded in KIX, where it has been on the ground since 29 March 2019. This is the sort of event that no transport operator's staff could plan for. It's a very long time for one aircraft to be suddenly unavailable. While the charters of a QF B744 (typically QF6403/6404 SYD - HNL and return) are an intragroup transaction, there are still extra costs to the QF Group, such as the how the B744 burns more kilograms of fuel per flight than a B788. Although a drop in the ocean when considered as a percentage of employees, staffing costs must have risen as it's impractical (and unfair) to ask JQ staff to suddenly go on leave.

JQ international is predominantly/subtantially (as I understand it) staffed by Thai or Indonesian crew. Usually the CSM is Australian. So whatever the costs are they are less than Australian crew in $ terms and the conditions probably also worse.

Remember even QF9/10 is staffed by British crew.

Sometimes you win some or lose some, this was a win for me, having changed plans I’m already back in SIN, and was trying to work out when to move my Plus fare to, so just took the refund instead.

However, our last 3 (extended) family outings with this Jetstar route - JQ 7/8 - have been problematic - this one cancelled, Sister in laws JQ8 cancelled last August, our JQ8 flight delayed 10 hrs March 2018. Plus last time I took EK MEL-SIN flight in Jan it was chock full because many pax were transferred from JQ7 that was cancelled that morning. By contrast 3 x Scoot on the same route, only problem was a 30min ATC delay into MEL.

dajop, when booking any sort of public transport it's way preferable that it's scheduled to operate daily.

JQ7/JQ8 at present are twice weekly each way. As with the JQ route to a mainland Chinese city I know nothing about, CGO, I have an inkling that if there's a 'choice' for JQ, it will cancel 'the 7' and 'the 8' first (because there are 'alternative' QF mainline flights) and then perhaps the CGO offerings.

If JQ7 is cancelled, travellers can face delays if it's a busy time and 'the 35' or 'the 37', plus indirect JQ options or the sole EK flight, are heavily booked.

Apart from many other AFFers' general dislike/ bare tolerance of LCCs, better to book on a carrier with at least a daily option. If it has multiple scheduled flights like SQ, all the better. JQ and SQ are chalk and cheese, and on occasion, JQ fares (once one adds in checked luggage and a meal/drink) are not a lot cheaper, yet the experience is decidedly inferior.

TR is one I've used recently but its 'no own food or drink' policy (shades of 'one cannot even consume water on the Singapore MRT' ) is a shocker.
