Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

A320 VH-VGP on JQ792, the 0700 hours MEL - MCY took off at 0754 on Monday 15 April with arrival suggested as 41 minutes behind schedule at 0956 hours.

JQ439, Tuesday 16 April's 1510 hours OOL down to MEL took off at 1627 so arrival for A321 VH-VWT is at a projected 1834 hours, 59 minutes tardy.

Looks like Bali is being hard hit by 787 cancellations. Tomorrow's JQ35 MEL-DPS is cancelled. This appears to be in addition to the flight on 19 April from SYD to DPS which is cancelled.

Interesting that there's a charter flight MEL-CGO (Zhengzhou) operated by JQ's 787 on behalf of Australia Comfort Travel Group. That's flying tomorrow and Saturday (and the next couple of Wednesdays and Saturdays). It seems open for reservation by regular pax.

So the charter flight flies, but regular pax left stranded? (Or perhaps they've been reaccommodated?)

JQ522, the 1815 hours MEL - SYD did not become airborne until 2018 on Tuesday 16 April. Arrival for A321 VH-VWT should be at 2135 hours, 115 minutes late.

MEL_Traveller, in the recent past - last few months - when there is a problem with lack of B788 JQ availability, MEL - DPS seems to be first choice to cancel. This may be because JQ is now supposedly (as it likes to say - ugh!) "double daily."

Nothing should surprise but B788 VH-VKJ remains in KIX following its publicised engine problems approaching the airport on 29 March 2019 and subsequent investigation by the Japanese air safety agency (with Oz ATSB apparently also involved).

More than 19 days inoperable is the tally. For an airline during Oz school holidays plus Easter - absolute peak travel time - that's a very long time for a plane to be unavailable on an unscheduled basis.

As we know QF6403/QF6404 with a QF B744 (mostly VH-OEB) continue to operate for JQ on its SYD - HNL - SYD flights, but QF has a finite (and diminishing) number of B744s so even if the JQ management wanted one for DPS, it might not be available.

And with Easter etc forthcoming, there are unlikely to be spare QF A332s sitting around doing nothing, or even B738s (or JQ A320s).

In more on 16 April, JQ497 (1940 hours OOL down to NTL) took off at 2040 so arrival should be at 2137, 42 late for A320 VH-VGO.

For the HNL flights it does look like they pulled an 'old' 744 out of retirement. The qantas source lsited a 744 rego that isn't shown on the QF seat map page. This time is was a skybed II version (with no F cabin).

JQ975, the 16 April PER across to ADL due to push back at 1750 was in the sky at 1858, so A320 VH-VFH should arrive at 2300 hours late tonight, 50 late.

LST up to SYD JQ750 has A320 VH-VFX and is arriving at 2255, 40 late.

First of the Wednesday 17 April 2019 morning's from SYD down to MEL, JQ501, the 0605 hours, has had a sleep in as takeoff for A320 VH-VFN was not until 0740. Arrival should be at 0855, 75 late. With school holidays and tomorrow - Holy Thursday - being one of the busiest days for air travel, so there's some 'spillover effect' today - it will be hard for this aircraft to be on time all day unless JQ decides to cancel a return flight.

The MEL - OOL JQ430, the 0600 hours, took off at 0646 with A321 VH-VWT and is arriving at 0839, 39 late. Yesterday afternoon, this plane's previous four flights were between 45 and 95 minutes late arriving, but it overnighted in SYD from 2349 hours so no obvious reason as to why it's late this morning.

JQ560 (0820 hours MEL - BNE) had not taken off by 0914, so it will be at least 40 minutes late into the Sunshine State's capital.

JQ475 (the 0825 hours 17 April NTL down to MEL) was in the sky at 0932 hours. Arrival for A321 VH-VWW should be at 1059, 54 late.

It's most unusual for an A321 to be on this route.

Later on 17 April, the afternoon 1640 hours MEL - LST (JQ739, A320 VH-XJE) was airborne at 1742 with suggested arrival 1828 hours, 43 late.

JQ515 (1400 hours Thursday 18 April 2019 SYD down to MEL that took off on the dot of 1500 with A320 VH-VGD) should arrive at about 1622, 47 late.

The HNL - MEL JQ2 has B788 VH-VKH and should arrive at 1631 hours, 96 minutes tardy.

Continuing with Thursday 18 April, passengers on JQ782, the 1325 hours early afternoon from BNE to ADL who were not rebooked must have had a shocker of a day. The flight (A320 VH-VQF) took off at 2003 hours and is estimated to arrive in Wine City at 2155 hours, 375 minutes late.

This aircraft arrived in BNE on what would normally be the return journey, JQ783, at 1921, only six late. There must not have been a plane in BNE that could be purloined quickly. (Not that one expects planes to be sitting around doing nothing on Holy Thursday).

On Good Friday (19 April 2019), JQ25 (0700 hours morning MEL - CNS - NRT) is expected to depart at 0810 hours.

JQ18, the scheduled 0950 hours MEL arrival (ex HKT) should arrive 50 late.

On Good Friday 19 April 2019, JQ8993 (B788 VH-VKF) is operating what looks to be a positioning flight from MEL to possibly OOL. It departed bang on 0700 hours.

Later on Friday 19 April, JQ432 (A321 VH-VWY, the scheduled 1005 hours MEL - OOL up up and away at 1105) should arrive at 1258, 53 late.

A320 VH-VQR on Friday 19 April's 1720 hours BNE down to MEL JQ569 (airborne two hours later) is arriving at 2131, 101 minutes behind the timetable.

JQ7, the 1110 hours MEL - SIN is expected on Easter Sunday (21 April 2019) to depart at 1235, 85 late.

Southbound JQ68 (B788 VH-VKI) on the redeye from CGO down to MEL has B788 VH-VKI and is arriving at 1356, 51 late.

JQ511 (A321 VH-VWW) is the 21 April 1220 hours lunchtime SYD down to MEL airborne at 1311, so predicted 'at gate' (for JQ 'on ramp') arrival is 1428, 33 late. It won't be the first time, but the following flight, JQ513 is ahead of 'the 513' with 511 due to arrive at 1418, seven minutes early as it took off at 1301, only 11 minutes after timetabled pushback.
