Jetstar will rebook you into QF J if there is no alternative JQ availability and a flight is disrupted within their control. That is a part of their customer recovery process

A silver lining. We could get used to that.

This is a JQ 'recovery' flight which is created when PAX need to be accommodated by QF.

The flight is operated by QF, and, as I'm sure you know now, check in and all other admin is done with QF. The code is a bit like a codeshare, and simply ensures the ticket is kept in JQ's control. JQ and QF use separate ticketing systems, so they can't just transfer your PNR across to QF, which is why it comes up like this.

Just an FYI in case anyone else comes across this.

Ah ok, the 80 refers to the qantas matching flight and i guess the JQJQ is their code. Makes sense to me, staff at airport should be aware of that too.

In my case the silver lining was we got rebooked onto our preferred flight. (Original had a stop over, was the only award fare available).

But the whole expierence was a shamozzle for most involved. Still haven't done my reimbursement, sittin at $5-600 + seat selection fee.

VKJ back today after a month in HKG. Back in service this arvo.

Interesting that they are getting some work done prior to entering a heavy check next year. Must have some serious issues to fix.

All 787s now back in Australia it seems, hopefully a clear run through peak, it appears they have a spare up their sleeve looking at the schedules over peak.

Looks like they're down a couple of 787s again.

I saw VKH parked at a remote bay in Narita last night. Hasn't flown since Tuesday. VKJ and VKK also haven't flown since they both arrived in Melbourne on Tuesday.

JQ7/8 cancelled today. Some MEL-SGN and BNE-NRT cancellations in there too.

Looks like VKB is out of order in Singapore.

JQ8 SIN-MEL cancelled yesterday and also tonight, assuming the current JQ7 MEL-SIN is operating a return backlog flight tonight plus dropping off spare parts!

As alluded to in the Jetstar Cancellations/Delays thread, -VKB is operating an 0730 hours SIN-MEL today ('JQ8983) that should be at an international gate at 1750 hours late this afternoon.

JQ29 MEL-BKK is the 1420 hours delayed until an estimated 1925 tonight in departure, so this is likely to be -VKB.

I think it might be better to just axe the route and not even bother at all. The route just seems more a hassle these days.

Your suggestion can't be dismissed out of hand, but at a high level in the company, QF might be concerned at the dominance of Singapore Airlines and subsidiary Scoot that together in September 2025 carried about 425,000 passengers to or from Singapore (i.e. roughly 212,500 each way) compared to QFi/JQi that together carried only 115,000 passengers (i.e. for simplicity, roughly 57,500 each way).

If it's assumed SQ has available aircraft to deploy extra frequencies to/from Oz and capacity agreements don't bar this, QF would not like SQ to 'steal' more passengers as it could also eat into QFi's other routes such as MEL-PER-LHR/CDG and seasonally FCO given SQ would be placing more seats into the market.

In theory there are plenty of options within the QF group - so they should have processes in place to keep customers happy by utilising other JQ services (via DPS), QF direct services or various other QF services that serve SIN instead of shafting passengers onto 24 hr delayed flights. Not sure if they do or not now, they did in the past.

But because on some days they sub in an A321 via DRW, there must be sufficient traffic that they just need to fly there somehow.

The closure of 3K, however may be affecting the route significantly although the 6E arrangements probably help to take some of that connecting traffic.

I have written it up in the 'Jetstar cancellations/delays thread' but B788 VH-VKE hasn't commenced 2026 well, with it rostered for the lunchtime JQ13 SYD to KIX that some time after 1800 hours was eventually cancelled.

Earlier today this plane had operated empty from MEL to be in position to operate JQ13, but looks like it'll remain overnight in SYD. My guess is it needs repairs/maintenance (unless JQi has a crewing problem).

I'm not sure it's fair to blame 787 issues rather than the lack of airframes, but there have been significant delays for the last 2 JQ53/54 flights due the weather in NRT/KIX delaying the arrival aircraft to Brisbane. We're booked on JQ54 on the 22nd so hopefully its fixed by then. I haven't found any complaints online, is Jetstar handling things better these days?

No, aircraft operating JQ29 is scheduled to turnaround in BKK to operate JQ66 to BNE which is already showing a delayed departure time of 00:55 tomorrow
