Jetstar Asia to shutdown on 31 July 2025

. I recall they have another long haul low cost unit also.
JAL has both
- ZipAir Tokyo (100% JAL, 8 788s) which had a minor rebrand to remove the Z logos, and operates out of Narita to various international destinations, half in the USA
- Spring Japan (70% JAL, 6 737s and 3 321P2F cargo) - operates purely Japan to China

Jetstar Japan (50% JAL) is the largest however with 19 320s and 3 321LRs.

Idk how FX would favour GK given Yen is weak and has been for quite a few years now. (so their revenue is in weak currency) but one of the biggest cost in Jetfuel would be in USD I'd imagine.

JAL does have a LCC or value brand but it's currently operating international mid to long haul and the Jetstar branding is actually advantageous to QF Group. If you're a Japanese traveller you'd be more ok to fly "Jetstar" to Australia and in Australia as it's done solidly over in Japan.
Having a look this is all I found from the latest report this year.

Jetstar Japan share of profits materially benefited from +$22m FX gain on lease liabilities

I’m no expert on FX, but it appears GK leases its fleet (orders are not from the QF book) and then re leases onto JQ. I’m not sure if that’s is somewhat connected to the gain, those leases to JQ are finishing this year and are going back to Japan or the lessor if not renewing.

There was some subleasing arrangement with 3K last decade which attributed to profitable periods also. There was an article around that by a financial analyst who was questioning the whole scenario, I will try and find it.
