Jetstar adds Melbourne - Colombo

I can’t see LAS happening? The city is in melt-down, tourist wise, with numbers plunging.

I went to LAS last year and it was decidedly less fun than 10 years ago :(

Resort fees are ridiculous… we paid USD45 or something for a bottle of water and ‘document service’… they’d notorize/witness two documents for you, for free. 🤷‍♂️

I reckon prices would have to come way down, and service and food improve for JQ to even consider the route.

And now on top of anything, Aussies are going to get sluggers an extra USD100 to visit national parks.
They said more medium term so I am thinking more 2030. Unknown what state the country will be in, however I can’t see the prices in Vegas dropping, it’s all double to triple pre pandemic.

Long Haul low cost isn’t really a proven model, they would be facing 14-16 hrs westbound, the low cost base advantage goes out the window with such long missions. Those savings made by using foreign labour hire becomes a drop in the ocean compared to the heavy fuel bill.

They have a lot of extra economy and a few extra PE seats vs a standard aircraft, but lose 40 or so lie flat business class seats, that bring in what $10K per return flight? It's hard to see it working but who knows, it some time off anyway. In any event for the Australian traveller, Las Vegas isn't just about Las Vegas, it's also a gateway to the Grand Canyon as well.

Whilst we're throwing the proverbial at a wall, why not SYD-MEX? A new market for the Jetstar crowd 🤣

And that ‘grand canyon’ now comes with a foreign tourist fee of USD100, which apparently includes minors. So a family of 4… USD400… it’s not worth that much for a view! lol

I would unironically love this (okay maybe not on JQ) and wish there was a bigger market for it.

That whole region is so hard to get to, the easiest way is connecting in LA but that's a real pain in the cough and involves entering the US.

Further down is even harder - want to visit Costa Rica/Panama but it's another six hour flight after LA or SCL!

Although TBH 400USD is chump change compared to what accommodation costs across a lot of the US these days. That's about the same as the "resort" or "destination" fee for a two rooms (for a family of 4) in Vegas for a what 4-5 days?

I've flown to MEX via SCL instead... We should continue/move the discussion here:

I was looking over some past invoices in my inbox from a decade ago for a Vegas trip. Times have definitely changed. These are prices for peak ish in August back then.

Luxor $76 per night, $25 resort fee night.
MGM Grand $91 night, $25 resort fee
Car hire Europcar Medium, $24 per day.
Virgin America flight SFO-LAS $49
Spirit Airlines LAS-LAX $25

Food and Drink was dirt cheap.

Somewhat strange..
Note that Flex (or More) categorises as Economy.. the higher earning Economy Max packages were removed a while back.

That said GCMap says it's 5443mi which should put it in the 45 SC category.
Alternatively if the table for Aus East Coast to Northeast and Southeast Asia is altered to include Sri Lanka then it would be 40 SC.
Or if East Coast to Delhi and Bangalore is altered to India and Sri Lanka then 50SC

(At the moment it seems to be calculating as Perth to SEAsia which is definitely wrong).

Business Max earns a lot more.
Eg for SYD-ICN (5100mi) Economy Flex is 40SC, Business Max is 125SC.

I suspect that QF/JQ need to decide WHERE Sri Lanka will fit in the definitions
ie
Qantas, Jetstar and partner airline regions and definitions
on https://www.qantas.com/au/en/freque...r-and-partner-airline-regions-and-definitions

note that the points and SC granted by QFF for Sri Lankan airlines on the CMB-MEL route are so low as to enforce the idea of choosing an alternative routing.

I picked some random dates in October and moved forward/back a couple days here and there… you can get ‘business return’ for $2100, or $1870 by joining club jetstar. Seems semi reasonable.

As above distance wise MEL- CMB is only a bit further than SYD-ICN so I suspect it fits into that East Coast to NE and SE Asia category.

On the partner earnings, they could simplify the tables quite a bit.
Eg. HK, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, Singapore, China and Sri Lanka all have the same SC earn, though points can differ by about 20%

I think CMB should be grouped with DEL and BLR therefore 50 status credits. However given the Jetstar website clearly says 25 status credits then you have no grounds to argue if in fact the system gives you 25 status credits.
