I can’t see LAS happening? The city is in melt-down, tourist wise, with numbers plunging.

I went to LAS last year and it was decidedly less fun than 10 years ago

Resort fees are ridiculous… we paid USD45 or something for a bottle of water and ‘document service’… they’d notorize/witness two documents for you, for free.

I reckon prices would have to come way down, and service and food improve for JQ to even consider the route.

And now on top of anything, Aussies are going to get sluggers an extra USD100 to visit national parks.

They said more medium term so I am thinking more 2030. Unknown what state the country will be in, however I can’t see the prices in Vegas dropping, it’s all double to triple pre pandemic.

Long Haul low cost isn’t really a proven model, they would be facing 14-16 hrs westbound, the low cost base advantage goes out the window with such long missions. Those savings made by using foreign labour hire becomes a drop in the ocean compared to the heavy fuel bill.

They have a lot of extra economy and a few extra PE seats vs a standard aircraft, but lose 40 or so lie flat business class seats, that bring in what $10K per return flight? It's hard to see it working but who knows, it some time off anyway. In any event for the Australian traveller, Las Vegas isn't just about Las Vegas, it's also a gateway to the Grand Canyon as well.

I would unironically love this (okay maybe not on JQ) and wish there was a bigger market for it.

That whole region is so hard to get to, the easiest way is connecting in LA but that's a real pain in the cough and involves entering the US.

Further down is even harder - want to visit Costa Rica/Panama but it's another six hour flight after LA or SCL!

Although TBH 400USD is chump change compared to what accommodation costs across a lot of the US these days. That's about the same as the "resort" or "destination" fee for a two rooms (for a family of 4) in Vegas for a what 4-5 days?

With JQ announcing BNE-CEB and PER-MNL yesterday what are some routes you hope they have in the pipeline for the rest of the year,

There was speculation they have been considering MEL-TWB and ADL-CBR May be in talks.

Personally as an ADL local I’m hoping ADL-AVV comes back this year and still feel they could tap into a few routes in ADL like AYQ, AKL again LST etc.

I was looking over some past invoices in my inbox from a decade ago for a Vegas trip. Times have definitely changed. These are prices for peak ish in August back then.

Luxor $76 per night, $25 resort fee night.
MGM Grand $91 night, $25 resort fee
Car hire Europcar Medium, $24 per day.
Virgin America flight SFO-LAS $49
Spirit Airlines LAS-LAX $25

Food and Drink was dirt cheap.
