I realize this question has an unknown answer other than to 'those in the planning'. A friend was advised by an ta today that jal will not be giving qff pts. when it comes on board oneworld alliance. Has anyone heard this? My friend is booking oneworld alliance rtw trip sept. '07. thanks.

I would have thought that it would be a condition of entry into the OW Alliance that JAL flights earn QFF (and other alliance airline programs) points?

thanks Shane, that is what I also thought. My friend said the ta looked something up and said no. I can understand no pts. now, but once they come in, should be different matter.

I'd be a bit surprised if this was an across the board thing. I would suspect that maybe they could be restrictive on what constitutes an eligible fare for earning QFF points, but I would think at least some of the fares would be

Agree. Earning points across the alliance is a core benefit and so we can be sure this will apply when JL joins. However there may be some heavily discounted fares that don't earn points. (In *A NH has a number of non and reduced earning fares.)

Or some JAL flights will have a reduced earning capacity like CX.
Like other posters a key benefit of alliances is the increased earning ability and also redemption fo FF points on alliance members' flights.

Exactly; I'm sure the TA does not yet have access the the necessary information. ATM, JAL does not earn; As with previous posts here, I would expect that there would be earning levels once JAL becomes part of O/W.

It may be that the person asking the question of the TA was travelling on a highly discounted fare that would not qualify for QF FF points, such as Q fares in AA.

Or it may be that the TA checked the current situation and rightly said not QF FF benefits at this time. But when JAL officially joins OneWorld (expected to be April), I think it is reasonable to expect QF FF points and SCs on qualifying flights. It just remains to be seen what QF defines as qualifying flights for JL.

Maybe some confusion on the TA's behalf? JAL (& Malev) although not yet a member of OW can now be used on some one-world products (RTW using Global Explorer comes to mind), but QF FF points can't be earnt when using JAL. One would expected when they officially enter the alliance that many fares (certainly the higher Y, and J/F fares) would come with the ability to earn QF FF points.
