Friends

I am travelling on QF11 soon.

Able to select seat in the main cabin with relative ease.

However, when I tried to do online check-in, it says "additional payment" is required.

Why is that ?

FYI, the ticket was arranged by corporate AMEX on, as far as I am aware, fully flexible fare

AMEX is now telling me that as a NB, I cannot pre-select any seat.

That is positively odd to me as the seats are open for me to choose from my FF log in.

Thanks

Can't see any reason it should be 'charging' you for seat selection when doing OLCI (except maybe for an exit in Y, but that is not what's happening). Prior to OLCI, maybe, but AFAIK OLCI is after any period during which payment for seat selection is imposed.

Are you in j or y. If j you shouldn't be selecting a main cabin seat.

Is it charging for the seat selection, or for an outstanding amount on the fare?

I would be getting your Travel Agent to contact QF to sort it out.

Seat Selection for a Business Class passenger is free, even without the status.

If you are in Economy, then yes you will need to pay (except not if you have left it for OLCI)

I took it to mean 'main J cabin' as opposed to Emerald City but you may be onto something...

"Main cabin" is my way of referring to rows 16-22 in J (cf EC ros 11-13)

Yes, AMEX TAs repeated to my secretary and to myself that as a NB, seat selection in J comes with a fee.

I am flabbergasted as this is weird.

Anyhow, we will see soon

QF Customer Call Centre is adamant that no fee is chargeable.

I will report back once face time is established with check in agents

I strongly suspect my TA is wrong as it contradicts so many observations here.

Thank you

Have a look at the QF website on this link clearly states

Advance Seat Selection is complimentary if:

  • You are travelling internationally in First, Business or Premium Economy cabins.

Wish the big-name TAs knew that and stopped BS'ing everyone else

Cheers

I am still not sure what that message additional payment needed means though, have the tickets been issued yet?

Both the QF site and checkmytrip confirmed that the booking / seat selection are "confirmed".

See the error message from QF when I tried to do the online checkin today

It cost the company a 5-figure sum for the flights so that makes it annoying to see "additional payment" is required.

ThanksQF Message Nov 8th.jpg

Maybe they haven't issued the 'ticket' properly. Call AMEX as QF will advise you to call them too most likely.

Definitely call your TA as otherwise you will probably have to pay at the airport before they will give you your boarding pass!

I wouldn't waste your time getting annoyed on here. This is where you need to contact the TA to get it sorted ASAP, considering your flights are within the very near future...

Ah! I think that might be it. Has the TA actually paid QF as yet? If not, then even though you can do seat selection, it won't let you do OLCI as the ticket has not been issued. That only happens after payment is received.

if online check in is open I reckon the TA is very very late with ticketing!
