I've done many MEL-SYD-OOL's on QF since relaunch last October. My wife also did it yesterday.

One thing I have noticed is that the flights are always full (every last seat in Y and J, mostly) mainly weekend flights, but have done some weekday flying there are well and even when trying to book a few weeks out generally I can only find high priced Red E-deals or Super Savers only.

Isn't time QF thought about deploying another SYD-OOLvv flight to help alleviate capacity constraints, even just an one extra 737 per day on a weekend would help.

Or better still put on some direct MEL-OOL QF flights.

Has anyone else found that QF's OOL flights are always full these days?

Last few I've done SYD-OOL vv weekdays have been probably > 80% full in Y. Always on 860 up and 864/865 back.

I do the MEL-SYD-OOL at least once a month and they are generally all quite full. If they don't add another SYD-OOL, it would be great if they did a MEL-OOL!

One major reason why QF may not do this is that its costs per available seat kilometre are higher than either its subsidiary JQ or major competitor VA (and way above TT's costs per ASK).

QF might be concerned that the yields available on the route (if it wants the planes to be at least 80 per cent full) would be insifficient, although I concede that more and more, OOL is a viable alternative to BNE given the latter's problems with single runway only operations that lead to so much unpunctuality at busier or problematical weather times.

What about those refurb two-class QFlink 717s that are coming soon - perhaps they could work? (AFAIK) they have a lower operating cost.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I've had the same experience, QF flights have been really full, certainly their pax came flocking back - I wonder if they pinched them from VA or JQ?

I selfishly would prefer they just add more Syd capacity and not a direct Mel route so I can continue to get good J status credit deals ex Mel!!

Sounds like the gold coast folk have all forgiven qantas

Far from forgiven - and until there are more regular services that meet international arrivals and destinations other than sydney, 50% of my spend goes to Virgin

Probably a fairly common pragmatic point of view - as without DJ/VA then I am sure that the poor folks of OOL would be left with the dubious choice of only JQ or TT....
