Is there a list anywhere of the hotels used for quarantine, and when?

Just got a tentative booking for Sydney (Four Points Central Park) for December - hoping we can fly MEL-SYD by then - cancelled because apparently they've been press-ganged into quarantine.

I also would like to book somewhere in Melbourne for a staycation soon, and the missus would like to avoid quarantine hotels where possible.

Solution
Kept forgetting to post here the list.
As of today, in Melbourne the hotels used are:
  • Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport
  • Park Royal Melbourne Airport
  • Four points by Sheraton Melbourne Docklands
  • Holiday Inn on Flinders
  • Mercure Welcome Melbourne
  • Pullman Melbourne on Swanston
  • Stamford Plaza Hotel
  • Novotel Melbourne on Collins
  • Novotel South Wharf
  • Pan Pacific Melbourne
The ‘Health Hotels’ are the Novotel South Wharf and the Holiday Inn on Flinders. Also using a ward at the Albert Road Clinic (Private mental health hospital).
I had a booking for Mercure Welcome Melbourne for Easter last year (2020). I was planning on attending shows at the Melbourne Comedy Festival which was cancelled. I "lifted and shifted" the booking to Easter this year instead.

A couple of weeks ago I received an email from the hotel advising that they were closed due to "Victorian COVID-19 restrictions", my booking was therefore cancelled and where should they send my refund?

I wasn't sure if they were actually closed or were a quarantine hotel and therefore closed to non-quarantine guests.

There was no offer to rebook me for alternative dates or direct me to a "sister" hotel that might be open.

I've decided to instead move my Qantas flights to the June long weekend and use them for a day trip to Melbourne to see the French Impressionism exhibition at the NGV. No need for a hotel and, hopefully, the borders will still be open...
There are two reviews on Google of the Mercure mentioning quarantine stays within the last month.

I am a regional health care worker who is visiting Sydney to visit family in March (just 2 nights) & want to avoid the quarantine hotels if possible. I would like to stay in CBD if possible, but I don’t want to catch Covid.
My understanding, and it could well be wrong, is that COVID quarantine hotels are not taking other guests at the moment. Certainly, when some of the accor brands were involved in HQ in Sydney, when I was looking for a place to stay, some of their hotels had zero availability for bookings for long periods (several weeks), which I suspect was because they were being used for quarantine.

And welcome to posting on AFF @Miko - it's a great place with lots of knowledgeable people who love to help out.

Yes. Similar experience here as well. Instead of being open about it by putting something on their websites, they hide the fact that they are currently a COVID Iso Facility, wasting our time when looking for availability.

According to their website https://www.rydges.com/accommodation/sydney-nsw/sydney-airport/

RYDGES SYDNEY AIRPORT IS NOT A GOVERNMENT AIRLINE CREW OR RETURN TRAVELLER QUARANTINE HOTEL. THE ONLY HOTEL DIRECTLY AT THE TERMINAL.

but it was one of the early quarantine hotels - see 'They haven't listened': Medical professionals skipped quarantine and flew interstate (note the photo)

Interestingly that statement has disappeared.... and also they are mysteriously blocked out for booking as well until April....

EDIT: They are housing airline crew again..... bummer

I wasn't even allowed to step into reception and had to remain outside the main door of Westin Brisbane today to drop off something
The exercise bike hire people reckoned they left bikes at reception, but Mrs Pineapple got as far as the ADF guys outside when she dropped a care package. Possibly they are the "new normal" reception for such hotels!

hide the fact that they are currently a COVID Iso Facility
I suspect the absence of any comment would be because they don't want to be stigmatised when their stint as quarantine hotels stops.

They must all be hoping they don't get the same publicity as the HI Melbourne Airport, Sydney Travelodge, Brisbane Grand Chancellor etc.

There's one hotel in Cairns being used i saw yesterday. Apologies I didn't get the name.

Hobart I know of Ibis Styles.

Launceston I know of Peppers Seaport.

Couple of articles about the Pacific Hotel in Cairns being used. This is one of them

Just did a booking.com search across numerous dates in Cairns CBD (overnight and longer stays) and the Pacific was the only one showing no availability. Possible there could be others outside the CBD.
The lack of masks on some people and the lack of social distancing between arriving passengers and some officials is a bit concerning

DoubleTree Cairns always shows as “sold out” over the next month. It has shown this so far this year. Then, as the days roll by, still booked out for the following month.

I wonder what happens to those unfortunate enough to book more than a month ahead, as the site accepts bookings more than one month out?

Edit: Having said that, they do have a banner on their website:

“We’re Not Open Right Now

We're sorry, but as part of local prevention efforts, our hotel is currently closed through April 06, 2021. We are accepting reservations for future travel dates, so please feel free to book one of our many flexible rate options ...”

Probably a hotel to avoid until confirmed that they are no longer a COVID Iso facility, if wanting to book with some certainty.

If you go to TripAdvisor, you can find a somewhat list.
You have to be cunning in the search.
A lot, I would say all of the Accor hotels have jumped onto the quarantine hotel list, making them lots of money, but then it makes them have a bad reputation, but they don't seem to care.
The Aust govt and state govt, also don't care, who ever decided to use hotels in the first place for Covid quarantine was very inept, stupid, really, but no one ever listens.
From the very begining, they should not have not used hotels, because people like us, who don't have the Covid disease, any strain of it, can now get a change of getting it.
Like they are now using the Covid jab as a requirement for travel, despite some being anti vaxxers.
They would probably use Medicare records to do it, like the bowel screening test once you are 50, no way to avoid that package being sent to your home post box.
Marriott Sydney
Swisstotel Sydney
Sofitel Sydney
Pier One Sydney

Park Hyatt Hickson
That is just an adhoc list that I picked up from reading news articles.
Would not be surprised if every hotel in Sydney has already been used for Covid quarantine, but dues to privacy, no list is made publicly available.

Edit:
No doubt. And in the process wasting the time of those trying to check room availability.

Some people who have stayed at these quarantine hotels, are very proud and have even gone as far as thanking people who have made their stay "comfortable".
As I mentioned above, just read "reviews" on TripAdvisor Aust website.

Edit:
The new Pullman Adelaide on Currie, while it won't open till Sept, hopefully people in "control" won't decide to use that as a Covid quarantine hotel, was going to try that one hotel one night in Dec this year.
Yes, not cheap, that one, "touch wood it will be kept "clean".
Adelaide Oval "hotel" was used for the cricket team quarantine a few weeks back.
Adelaide Casino's new hotel, while also not cheap, might be another one they decide not to use a Covid quarantine hotel.

I'm not sure what your point is? I was referring to the hotels not wanting to be stigmatised as ex quarto hotels - despite very sound procedures and cleaning some people will react with fear and loathing to any former quaro hotel. In reality, once the people in quarantine leave the risk leaves shortly after. I would have no concerns at all coming back to this Rydges.

I would say all of the Accor hotels have jumped onto the quarantine hotel list
Not quite, I count 11 BNE Hotels and 13 in SYD that I can book right now.

Its a difficult choice.
Do we go and book a totally new hotel, one that has not been used as a covid (medi) hotel, or one that has been used as that, and has been "cleaned".
If I am not wrong, supposedly the South African one (Covid) is the most transmittable.
Newer hotel, that has not been used as a quaro (as you put it) hotel, most like the Sofitel Adelaide, or Eos (Adelaide Casino), will be very expensive.
I have stayed at the Mercure on Therry, and really like it, for its central spot, but it has been used as a quaro hotel, as is the Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport and the city one.
Don't know if I will want to stay with these again.
Will have to do some deep looks into hotels, the next time I going to Melbourne.
Touch wood, hope the Novotel South Bank Brisbane/Rydges Fortitude Valley haven't been used as these.
Heh, who knows, they might have been.
