Is the Qantas A380 the worst business class product between AU and US?

The ever-forthright SFO777 is back on Qantas again, this time in J.

His conclusion on his LAX-SYD flight on the Qantas A380:

Mercifully, this 15 hour ordeal on one of the worst airlines in the free world was finally over. Qantas A380 Business Class would be my last choice on this route when AA, VA and DL all offer 1-2-1 seating. Even United is better despite their 2-2-2 Dreamliner seating. At least it is a comfortable 2-2-2 and they have Wifi and far better IFE.

"The Qantas amenity kit. Pretty pathetic although rather fitting for a garbage Business Class product. ":D
If he took less pictures maybe he could have slept...

I agree with much of what he said about QF J especially the delays in drinks/meal service. I find the A380 seats very uncomfortable (787 J much much nicer than A380 J). Having read his TR and very impressed by its comprehensiveness, detail and photos, I'm less sure that my old TR I've been working on will ever see the light of day

I discard all the contents of any amenity kit and keep the bag
I actually prefer the more open plan cabin and Skybed II (so long as there is no droop) rather than the cooped up feeling of other J class where your legs go into a tunnel.

I don't believe and actually ignore all the hype that seem to go along with premium products. So my expectations are rather low.

This. Some people don't get the concept of space, both the actual amount and the perception of it.
In a small metal tube in a premium product, those that support the belief of less space (in every single way) being better should extend that logic to economy.

Apart from a few very dramatic diva comments his report was well written and informative
The issue with service on board is a problem for many as is well documented here .
Glad he liked the 1st class lounge

Sounds like SFO777 does not like the QF A380 product. Thats OK even with some over the top comments

I think Wifi should be left out of the "must have" items on an aircraft.

I do want to know where the "secret" TSA checkpoint is

The TSA checkpoint is part of the new T4 to TBIT connector. Not so secret in the morning, but may be at certain time of day.

I have some hope that QF will finally join TSA-pre like CX and BA soon. Last time I checked in online for a QF international flight there was a field to input the KTN (known traveller number), but my connecting BP for an AA flight did not show TSApre so I had to reprint the AA boarding pass anyway...

What do you find problematic about his trip reports? They strike me as some of the most detailed and unbiased out there.

I've seen a lot better. And "unbiased"??? As just one example of his bias he makes a big whinge about Qantas not having wifi on its older A380s. Yet states that Malaysian does have it when it doesn't have it on its same aged A380s - and he was even in first class then. But he loved MH, so that's why it's not mentioned. It doesn't suit the narrative.

But there are a whole lot of other deficiencies and omissions in his "reviews."

What really turned me off (moreso than his arrogant melodrama) are his unrelated attacks on other passersby he apparently considers beneath him or just wants to pick on for whatever reason, of which there were 2 in that review alone. It's just like schoolyard bullying (picking on someone he doesn't like for superficial reasons), but online where they have no right of reply.

Aside from his connotation that the disabled and families with small children are 'gate lice' I think the review is quite accurate.

Posting pics of people with an arrogant description of their supposed bad behaviour is stupid though.

Meh, just another blogger with attitude.

- Gets some things factually wrong (like all bloggers)
- Has a poisonous negative slant to writing which I personally don’t like
- Think taking photos (with faces visible) of people you don’t like is really low
- Exaggerates some things to point of disbelief having flown many of their routes reviewed several times
- Good thorough documentation of reviews but with all the nasty snipes and language it means I don’t really believe a lot of their soft experience
- Interesting lack of consistency on ‘criteria’ of ‘reviews’ - seems has an axe to grind..!

PS - A warning, their site is not secure at the time I clicked through and had possible malware according to our security so watch out if you don’t have good anti virus/malware.

Is there now a first lounge in LA? I thought it was a combined lounge...

As it's a long and boring 15 hour flight, not sure why you'd complain about getting to watch a rebooting computer screen. It's different, nice and uses up a good few minutes...

Hmm, yes the inability to follow simple directions for the tokyo subway explains alot...

There is a separate QF F Flounge (same floor, at the end of walkway). Although the ambience is not what i would expect of a FLounge.
It depends what time of the day you are there. Once I spent 9 hours connecting from MEL to PPT from 8 AM to 5PM and I was pretty much the only passenger in the lounge between 10AM and 4PM. I had very good service!!!
