Is Qantas in flight service slipping?

CX has certainly lifted their game lately, QF still somewhat behind. QF are s middle level airline on service and they do remain a little inconsistent. As I largely fly OW i rate them about equal with BA but behind CX. QF food is generally bordering on inedible in J.

As to some previous comments about QF customer care, they remain as disinterested as ever.

My sentiments exactly. As a non facebook or twitter user, I just assume Qantas couldn't care less about my feedback, positive or negative.

I submitted some mixed feedback a few months ago and within hours received a call to discuss it, particularly the negative stuff.

I gave up submitting feedback a few years ago as I'd always just receive a generic form response.

Decided to submit some about my very mediocre First flight from SYD-DXB last month - let's see if I hear back.

Another cut in service is the loss of Flounges. Given that MEL & SYD Flounges are wonderful experiences, I do not understand why they are not routine in other ports. Yet another QF 'enhancement' and a loss of benefit for a F fare. Then perhaps this is a way of getting rid of F (no one books F so we do not need it when actualy no one books F because the extra cost is not justified by the lack of differentiation in meals and lounges etc when compared with J).

I disagree with this one to an extent. Sure, if I've bought F from PER, ADL or BNE I can understand thinking "well this is a bit rubbish"(the new BNE J lounge helps, a little I guess).

QF nor the majority of its partners do not offer F out of these places. CX doesn't (except for the odd times a 4 class 77W visits), MH doesn't, EK have their own lounges(which are combined anyway), and I do not think QR offers F to ports other than SYD/MEL at this point... so your F fare out of these ports gets you J at least on one sector anyway....

However I don't call this a "loss" - if anything there's been a gain IMHO. LAX F is an absolute gain compared to the previous offering which was 3rd world. HKG and SIN while not dedicated F lounges are really superior to your usual J lounge (obviously one can't compare with CX Pier/Wing F lounges in HKG, or SQ TPR at SIN, but that would not be fair to either).

I understand the point, but there never were F lounges in other oz ports anyway, so I don't know how it is a "loss"

(and when the AKL F lounge goes in favour of a combo lounge, I am certain most will consider the replacement an overall improvement - well unless they ditch the ice cream :) )

my 2 cents.

A comment not crying out to be used out of context :D

(a different sort of "service" one presumes....)

(apologies modsters, I simply could not resist!)
That was my first thought as well and just hoped that serfty was in the Cabanas at the time.;)

As a contrast I flew QF in Business class on a 744 Supper service from HKG on Sunday night.

Not expecting much, I made out in the Wing pre flight.

Inflight I was somewhat surprised - the oriental braised pork dish I ordered was surprisingly substantial - and very very good.

Washed it down with Bin 28 Shiraz. Finished with cheese and port - all done within 70 minutes of takeoff.

Also, there was a cafe breakfast style option or continental/serial or standard hot - I had the latter and for once ate the lot rather than picking it.

It's a shame this type of thing is a standout rather than the norm.

QF127 or QF30?

I was on QF30 and submitted complimentary feedback for the service upstairs, but the pre-ordered fried chicken sandwich was awful.

Spent most of the time prior in the Pier where the burger disappointed for the second time in a row, so I won't be trying it again in a hurry.

As a QF plat based in Asia and flying CX primarily, I could not agree more. Also a stark contrast in service on my recent QF J flight (HKG-SYD).

CX J/Y always receive the personally greet with a "Thankyou for flying with us again Mr P", often with the menu handed over. J meal service consistently run like a top class restaurant. On the recent QF J (A330), no acknowledge of any sort (perhaps QF Js is full of WPs?). Then later had to ask for the amenities kit/PJs because they had apparently forgotten me. This was a 3/4 full flight.

I'll take much better food and wine over an individual greeting at my seat. CX J food and wine is stunningly average at most.

Agreed. In J at least I have always found their food to be mediocre and very salty.

I was on QF30 - in 14A (wore Golden Kanga QF PJ's). I had just flown on BA from LHR and with only about 2 hours after getting my QF BP printed at transit I decided to stick to the wing (I wanted to try the Pier as I have not been there since the refurb but after getting knocked back at transit security with my BA printed BP I had to head to E1 - couldn't be bothered going back). With Gate 25 I did not even consider the QF business lounge.

Thanks Eminere. I did .... more than one week ago . No reply yet and I am still living in the hope of QF service being on par with the likes of EK.

About two weeks down the track. Second feedback form submitted yesterday. Still not a boo from Qantas!

So close, but so far.
I was in 14K and briefly noticed the distinguished gent with the Olympic PJs across the aisle.

Distinguished?! Hmmm ... maybe 'older dude' :p ...

Anyhoo, thank for the prompting - I will provide feed back to Qantas.

p.s. You look nothing like your avatar ...

If you think Qantas in flight service is slipping then try out SQ economy. Requests for Coke Light were delivered with a frown and each time the frown got worse.

 That's very surprising for SQ, even in Y. I've only had great service when flying with them, and one of my best experiences was actually in Y on SIN-DXB.

There have clearly been some changes to the service offered over the years but things are probably better than they've been for a while.

It might annoy some that perhaps a responsible service of alcohol corporate responsibility is changing the free flow of drinks that people have become accustomed to, but it's not necessarily a bad thing.

Y food quality is often surprisingly good in recent months and I'd still challenge how a plated QF J meal service can be seen as inferior to a CX reheated container accompanied by chilled red wine...

Posted in another thread. Didn't drink alcohol. Very thirsty. Asked for Coke light and she came back with half a cup. 15-20 minutes later asked again and she came back with another half cup. Still thirsty and dehydrated. Asked for coke light again and this time I asked for can and the frown started. Then a couple of hours later asked for another can and did the same towards end of flight and the frown got worse each time. I know they try to get people to sleep so they can socialise buf I wasn't feeling well.

Please and thank you each time. I don't think I was expecting too much.

Frown or smile, I know of certain airlines who don't respond to call bells that well in Y, if at all, such that 15-20 mins after the first request you would be again making that request, not for the second drink but again for the first drink. At least all you got was a frown, I have been asked to wait to meal service by a Quite Fiery flight attendant on a different airline.

If dehydrated; why not drink water and avoid the caffeine?

Meal over. This was red-eye back to BNE.

Water doesn't quench my thirst.

FAs don't like you rocking up to the galley but don't like answering the call bell either. Perhaps they need a new career.
