Is Qantas Actually Listening?

I am reading this with interest. I am a self-funded flyer and have been a Qantas Club member for about 14years, which was one of the reasons I preferred to fly with Qantas. I am also a Silver Velocity member, so it was at times a challenge to make the decision as to which airline to fly - depending on reasons, finances etc, would pay the extra for Qantas. I have now started voting with my feet/pocket e.g. Flight to Auckland last weekend Virgin (Premium Economy), Flight to Sydney at the end of this month Virgin, flight back Virgin. Flight to France in August......let's see. I am full time employed so these are weekends away/conferences/annual leave. Will Qantas notice if all flyers change their loyalty....it has to hurt the bottom line...but how much do they really care?

QF has stopped listening, Red Roo has ducked for cover.

I've made the same complaint to QF 3 times this year, have recieved the same old spin and they will look at it.

I guess the day the day Crown Larger stopped flowing is the day I got tired of their BS. (And chuck those stupid sandwich toasters out the window as well)

They have a loyalty manager who is not loyal to the customers and cannot give straight answers.

It would actually be pretty easy for QF to reinstate the little things that have peeved people off but that means admitting they stuffed up being loyal to the passengers who support them.

I looked for, but can't find a reference to the corporate description of Lesley Grant's responsibilities which I think was given at one of the Lunches and some-one reproduced it on AFF. IIRC interaction with businesses came before customers. That is, making money for Qantas by selling points to Woolworths came before than trying to get pax to fly with Qantas an making money that way.

To see the future of QFF, just look at Aeroplan, Air Canada's spun-out FF program. https://www4.aeroplan.com/home.do. Its evolved to be so removed from its flying roots that Aeroplan has now even established its own 'frequent "flyer" 'scheme called Distinction !

Mea Culpa - never assume (cough/U/ME) You are spot on they did not fly the 767s.

<snip for space>

It'll take me another coffee to go through that but on the face of it you have nailed the manipulation of QF / JQ 'profitability' and management strategy. Thanks & well done!

Well, recently on a Syd-Lax flight in J, after take off, I was served a glass of wine and WAIT FOR IT, a packet of mixed pretzels and cashew nuts....I counted TWO cashew nuts in total:evil::evil::evil:. Pretzels in J class...on a 10K fare QF???

I know...Syd loses one of the A380s but the 4 daily flights to Sin gives one great options and flexibility...the J seats in the 777-300ER (1615 departure) and A380 (1215 departure) are identical I think, and IMHO, the best J seats in the air atm.

Pretzels in J sounds like United Airlines.. I get/used to get them on QF Dom. J, but haven't seen them for a while actually, but always get them to/from SIN

J on the 777-300ER are still amazing and the NEW J on the 777-300ER's are even better from what I have seen/heard/read, trying to get a flight on them soon and as SQ is refiting their 777-300ER's with the NEW F/J starting in early 2015, with completion by September 2016 it's even better

I just miss SQ Suites :(

I think that the Pretzels are such a cheap option. Always politely refuse them....

I think pretzels and mixed nuts are acceptable nibbles to serve with a pre-meal drink after departure.
What other airlines offer in J?

Its a small bowl of warm mixed nuts on Air Canada (intl) , but on domestic its a small packet of almonds.

Tip for flyine AC - when ordering a spirits+mixer, always ask for the mixer can as well. I nearly had my head blown off when I sipped a G&T yesterday. Strong! I mentioned this to the FA, who smiled and said - "yep, we mix 'em as though we like 'em" No enhancement there :)

That's a good idea, they also serve warm mixed nuts in Thai F, not sure about J.
I really like QF mixed nuts with Wasabi peas. Looks like they switched to simple pretzels.
Cost cutting?

Sure is cost cutting, Flew J midnight horror PER-SYD the other night. Was offered ONE aricini ball and then a cake of some sort. Only other choice was cauliflower soup. No thanks. Had to wait till morning for the CAFE breakfast, yep its still on d flights. I had a small quiche. And my biggeste peeve, the hot towels are a distant memory, love to know that that saves!! And my biggest complaint, why do they use the old 332's with seats for the overnight west/east flights and then use the ones with the mk 1 beds during the day?????? Happened this week and last month on PER-MLB route. I didn't need a bed in the daytime but would have been nice during the night. How hard is it to reschedule plans for the comfort of passengers?? I was tempted to fly Virgin and now will do so for my next midnight horror flights. Sorry Q but would be a simple fix to fight the Virgin beds.. I am not waiting for refirbs over the next 2 years. Rant over.... :)

Someone very wisely said to me very early in my career: "be careful of human resources departments, they'll appear to be concerned about your individual welfare, but at the end of the day it's the company's interests they're here to serve"

Exactly the same can be said for Loyalty.

Try to name one substantive initiative of QFi in recent times that would attract a customer from Melbourne to choosing them over the many other leading airlines that serve my hometown.

I'm just staggered that the board has allowed the current executive team to remain in place. More Australians are travelling than ever before, yet our biggest airline is losing more money than ever before.

Sorry but those 332's aren't old. The ones with the skybeds are a number of years older than those without.

FWIW, they only have 4 with skybeds, the rest do not.

The board is part of the problem.

Why are you staggered?

The board is the problem

AJ is just doing what the board wants which is why he was given a payrise

Hot towels are are sad enhancement

Oh do let us know how Virgin goes when they either sub the A330 for a 737 or you end up on one of the two old Emirates aircraft
