Is paying to join Costco worth it?

This thread reminds me of the "Duty Free Alcohol rip off" thread.

Same answer there as here - Costco (as in the duty free stores) have some products that are a genuine bargain and others that clearly are not. You need to know your stuff before you walk in or you will indeed get poor value for money.

Personally I took up the free membership when they opened here in NSW but didn't renew after that as I only used it twice that first year. Know enough people with a card and get a quick heads up from them each time they visit.

Im not been rude or distractions about costco. But i am quite of a suprise no one has agreed with me only one like which i wont mention the user name.

But i just want to point out the possibility how business actuall do business against us people in beleiving everything you hear and see at costco must be so what (true) when ore likely your falling in beleiving that is actually cheaper when you just gave annually to costco 60.00 dollars in the first place. People just dont dont no how to save up or believing. Costco just a brand. It makes people feel atractive about the branding just because its a giant costco. For me it is nothing more like a warehouse just like bunnings without a luxury ceiling obove your head when you enter.

Like ive said im suprise no one agreed with me because really the trick play at costco was to have this pay before you enter that door at costco 60.00 annually why do you think everyone must pay before you enter the doors ? Of course its to pay the other half price (the so what half discounted on that product) to pay it off.

Like ive said and only one more time to get this understanding,

For example You paid 60.00 annually to enter costco. Now you browse and mingle around and buy the tray of meat. It cost 5.00 dollars at costco and same product meat at coles new world 10.00 so its 5.00 MORE at costco. Take note again lesson 2. You are just about to pay at the cashier 5.00 dollars for that meat loaf of tray because its 5.00 cheap you walk away and now lesson 3. Did you really paid 5.00 for that meat loaf of tray? you did YES correct. But what you just didn't realise was that if you remind back how it all started. You just gave costco 60.00 that 60.00 annually membership covers up most of the so what (half price) on products whatever you may buy in the store. So there for that 60.00 annually will cover the actual OTHER half 5.00 for that meat loaf.

Costco will not make nothing cheap. It is as equal as going to woolies and coles if the meat of loaf on a tray cost 10.00 at woolies and coles. Costco will have a trick for you. They going to make it sound as if it is cheaper so they make it 5.00 dollars for that meat loaf of tray. And you only pay 5.00 bucks indeed. But that actual annually membership 60.00 is to cover the other missing half price 5% so this means you didn't really got the meat for 5.00 you did paid 5.00 after you left but that annually 60.00 is actually to cover the so what eveyrthing that is half price at costco. There for the game is that once you enter costco your brain believes it is cheaper on things at costco compare to woolies or coles new world. But people end up forgetting what they just did. You gave costco 60 bucks and normally that 60.00 bucks is to cover the missing other half price on goods.

Of coruse now you enter costco and wow everything seems cheaper and you only pay half the price. But that annually the mind tricks you.. you gave costco 60.00 dollars and that 60.00 dollars will now cover the (other missing half price.

So in vertually you paid regardless 10.00 dollars for that leaf of meat on a tray. So why bother shop at costco when it all works and falls into the very same situation when you go to coles and woolies and buy the same meat for 10.00 dollars seriously.

If Coles and Woolies where to charge you annually before you enter those doors... Coles and Woolies will then have that product(s) lets say that meat loaf on the tray for just 5.00 bucks but think again you paid them before you entered the doors. There for the statistic way of making secret busienss against people like you is to actually make them believe AFTER you enter the doors knowing things are half price when virtually you still paid the full price regardless even tho you only just paid 5.00 dollars for the damn loaf of meat on a tray... Seriiously i would never pay to enter a grocery store... i rather enter and see the actual price and end it there,

I hope now people will truely understand the reason how business has secrets and how statistically knows a way to deal with people in order to make you believe (we are cheaper and better then coles and woolies) when its actually no diferents.

Costco is a nice name and brand but defently i dont beleive about enter a grocery store just really rude how this business do such busienss with people. Also i don't like how big the trolleys are at costco... Even i could images i can shove in a loaf of bunnings hardware items on it.

Why im doing this? BECAUSE i want people like you to save up and dont beleive anything you see at the grocery store. Its day light robbery by business like those that has a trick of mind up your sleeve. However do ehat is best for you. Im not rich in order to throw money like that. Plus its not a big deal at costco its just a giant warehouse building that is nothing more then similarity stores across town just like costco regardless.. Its more like you need a truck to buy things there.

You are doing smart. Yes dont even dare pay for a grocery door to enter the doors. Just not right. That's the reason why the actual 60.00 will cover the other hal
the other half missing so what half price without you even notice what you just did.

Like i said 10.00 normal price for the meat tray, Costco has it 5.00 so they take the other 5.00 OFF IT. But you just gave costco 60.00 to actually cover the other half price off.. its just a way how business likes to brain washed many people in beleiving everything is cheap when its really not

You didnt got that meat loaf for just 5.00 u just gave costco 60.00 just like that to enter that door annually. Its a tottally rip off. Plus i can't imagien seen someone shopping there every month or so. So why bother give them 60.00 why not make it free and also have the meat loaf for just 5.00 bucks. Lets see if costco can keep it up or they going to now realise ive just broken into knowing what secrets they really had against us all.

Whatever you pay at costco 5.00 dolars off or 3 dollars off or so on each thing counts as half price. But that actual 60.00 is insensibly covering the other missing half price for those products you just going to buy. Tricky indeed and i believe its a complete a ripp off. In this case why bother shop there when its as equal price as coles new world.

It seems many families who shop there are not very smart after all. This is how one gets distracted. you pay annually your midn gets excited to enter costco now you realise things are half price.. But you just forget that you given costco 60.00 dollars annually to enter that door. This is how people get distracted. This is how costco wants it to sound like because its a mind game for everyone who enters costco. its only a way for costco making you believe everything is half price when its really not. It is when you check out and paid only half the price of the products but you also just forgot that you just gave 60.00 to costco before you entered that doors. Now i believe something like this should be telecast on the accurent affairs show. I think someone has to speak out about it. Makes me mad to think companies do this to people. Its a mix of ways to break things down so that afterwards your distracted and so on and make the ideal for you to forget that you just given costco 60 dollars to begin with. That 60.00 is a secret one. its just to cover the other missing half price of the products you buy.

In reality you paid that meat 5.00 but you gave costco 60.00 first there for they will take the other 5.00 bucks out of that 60.00 that you gave them without you knowing a thing. Im sure im 100% right about this.

I cant understand how families make them believe this is not so true. There goes families of todays young society throwing money just like that. Not good. When i was young in my younger days just after the war ended i wasnt aloud to spent a coin what so ever.

I just went to Coles and bought my weekly meat tray for $10. Even though it was $5 for the same tray at Costco.

Because spending an extra $260 (52 week x $5) at Coles makes far more sense than paying $60 membership a year at Costco :)

Thank you. Very wisely understanding there. Good for you.
Dont get me wrong the so what excitement about costco just because its a brand COSTCO you still have the same productativity as what you find in australia just anywhere coles woolies aldi so on. If costco was all american food supply then that would be more excitement but not the membership. Your thinking positive right there young men. Good on you.

Just before the eminent closure of the thread I'll make probably my only comment.

I use Costco about 4 times a year and get infinitely better value out of it than the $60 it costs me to be a member. It may not be for everyone but I really fail to understand how anyone who actually does the sums completely and without bias cannot understand this.

Duffa, thanks for the informative comparison in post #39.

I rejoined Costco after a 4 year lapse for just one purpose: to save $3,000 in hearing aids. That was worth it. Not much else is; tyres, possibly. Not sure about spectacles.

The lack of true value is compounded by the appalling Australian website. You actually have to attend the store to find out if they sell what you want. Tough luck if you're disappointed. The US website is excellent.

I think this thread has come to the end of its useful life.
The meat trays are rotting :(

Isn't it a "meat of loaf on a tray" !! I'm getting confused.

I've always been able to beat Costco's tyre prices elsewhere. Also, at least in Brisbane they don't do wheel alignments which tends to offset the convenience of tyre fitting while you shop.

Is paying to join Costco worth it?

In my experience no. Location is inconvenient. They don't take AMEX. Prices are rarely better than I can get elsewhere and I'm starting $60 in the hole. It's a no-brainer. Don't shop at Costco.

I can save much more at Woolies with the 22% discounted WISH cards.

Remind me how to get the 22% discount at Wow ?

They do take Amex.

Yes please that would be good.

Anyone used it overseas?
I'm going to the US soon and was wondering if anyone has had any problems using it over there?
Will just be shopping and possibly fuel - Thanks :)

Woolworths shareholders don't like Costco that's for sure with their market share being eroded away by the new entrants.

Long live competition that Costco provides to Australian consumers.
