Is it possible to keep extending travel credits?

My thread relates to domestic airline travel credits.
Hello and my apologies if there is another thread on this already… Travel credits are piling up with various expiry dates… have some VA expiring in Feb22/May/June etc etc..
Q: I acknowledge this may not be answerable as T‘s and C’s keep changing . 1: If a flight booked before date of expiry then does not go ahead due to lockdown (airline cancels) does the expiry date get extended?
2: If I book then cancel with current VA ‘unlimited changes policy’ will clock reset and my credit remain beyond its original expiry or will it be lost?

I get the feeling many of those credits will expire unused …it cannot be predicted (if we stay in this mess) when we can travel but will the airlines change their T and C’s accordingly?

I will further clarify - all are VA2 so the old credit system not applicable here. I got the following from VA site. I have credit expiring Feb22 (ie 12 months after booking). This implies that provided booking MADE by certain date 31/7/22 is valid FOR TRAVEL TAKEN 12 months later. It’s a little confusing - am thinking I’ll book week before my first credits expire and hope to extend their ‘life’ to June 30 22.
any thoughts would be appreciated?

As you've indicated, yours is a standard Travel Bank credit not a Future Flight Credit so a different set of terms and conditions apply:

3.1. Travel credits are valid for 12 months from the date of issue and will expire on the date that is 12 months from the original date of issue to your Travel Bank (Expiry Date). There may be multiple travel credits in a Travel Bank with different Expiry Dates.

6.1. The information below sets out the specific rules that apply to cancellation of Eligible Travel bookings purchased with travel credits. These are in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

6.2. Whether you are entitled to a refund in connection with a booking purchased with travel credits will be determined by the terms and conditions that apply to that booking, which may include the Virgin Australia Conditions of Carriage, Fare Rules.

6.3. Travel credits cannot be exchanged for cash. Where travel credits are used as a form of payment, refunds to original form of payment will result in the travel credits being returned to the same Travel Bank from which the travel credits originated. For example, if you paid for a$200 AUD Virgin Australia flight booking using travel credits and the Fare Rules permit a refund to original form of payment subject to a fee of $80 AUD, then $120 AUD in travel credits will be returned to the Travel Bank used to purchase the flight.

6.4. The Expiry Date of any returned travel credits will revert to the original Expiry Date that applied before the travel credits were used. If the original Expiry Date has passed when the refund occurs, the travel credits have expired and will not be returned to Travel Bank.

🙁
thought that might be the case…
think many credits (unless you are travelling intrastate Tas/Sa/NT/WA - likely to be unused)..

Thankyou

I booked a flight that was after my Standard Travel Bank credit was due to expire but had to cancel, the travel bank expiry date then became 12 months from the date the credits went back into travel bank.

I’ve also been told by VA that you can just call and ask for the dates to be extended.

Just received the following email:
We are contacting you to advise that we have extended the validity of your Virgin Australia Travel Bank credit until 31 July 2022.

I also got this email today for a travel credit which was due to expire on 23 July 2022.

Not sure what the point is when I'm only getting an extra week. Or did VA just give a blanket extension to everyone with existing credits that were expiring prior to 31 July 2022?

We are currently updating the expiry date for all standard credits issued between 21 April 2020 and 31 July 2022. These credits will be available to book and fly by 30 June 2025. We anticipate expiry dates in all customer accounts will be updated by December 2023.

What happens to the Administration credits that are not changing from 31 Dec? $300m certainly is a considerable amount.

Straight to Bain’s pockets?

Depends how it's all being accounted for, but I understand there wasn't a bucket.of.money given to Virgin to cover it. But, certainly, the liability will go away.
