Is FF-ing affecting your health ?

Wow, I must say that my efforts to keep fit pale in comparison to the rest of you here. I just try to only eat when hungry and ride my bike (20 km each way) to work. In a week I'll cover anywhere between 100km and 250km on the pushy.

When traveling I find the hours and greater stress help keep the chub off. I also only eat one main meal a day when in the USA. In UK and Europe I am too poor to eat anyway.

JohnK - top work. 60-100 is an amazing number and who cares about the health aspect, imagine the $$$$ savings! Seriously, well done.

Having seen the meal sizes in the USA, 1 meal is more than enough :D

Wow, good effort. I am sure you feel a heap better for it !
Yes I feel much better but unfortunately the weight is now a major issue. I put on 15 kilos when I stopped smoking and it has gotten worse since then. Time to do something about it.

Thanks. The saving is well over $5,000 a year.

Can I offer you some advice... eating only when you are hungry isn't great for your metabolism.

Most people don't know this but to metabolise a meal requires a great deal of energy - comparable to exercise even. That is why all trainers and dieticians will recommend you eat 6-7 small meals/snacks a day instead of 3 standard meals. A sign you have got it right is that you should actually never be hungry! Of course you have to eat the right amounts/types and balance of macronutrients for your lifestyle.

Indeed, Pauly7!

In fact "Pappa Platy" loves to starve himself, skip meals, etc in the mistaken hope of losing a protrusive belly that makes Crazy Frog look svelt. Problem is that it doesn't work and only undermines efforts to keep the old Type 2 Diabetes in check.

Eating frequent small meals is also one way to help to keep insulin levels even, which is very handy if you are aiming at reducing or maintaining weight (cos fat deposition is encouraged when insulin is elevated) and/or controlling type 2 diabetes by diet. (Others include choosing lower glycaemic carbs and combining protein with carbs in a meal, which both tend to even out/slow sugar uptake from the gut and thus result in less spike in insulin response over time).

Luckily "Mamma Platy" followed the basic dietary advice, lost a few kilos and is respectfully trim and active for a 77 yr old, not to mention brought her own Type 2 Diabetes under control by diet and exercise.

Incidentally, it is very encouraging that research suggests that even when people are "over weight" they still get the health benefits of good diet and exercise.
