Booded a points and pay fare for my wife on a return trip from Canberra to Brisbane a while ago. At the time had get tested and wait for restrictions to be lifted in Brisbane before we could leave Canberra. Had to purchase a new flight for my wife and upgrade my flight due to the price difference coming into Easter.
Asked CS at virgin for a credit and all they would do is push the flight out furher in the year. Now we have a flight booked return from Canberra in a couple of weeks time and have no intentions of going.
Looking for a credit of some sorts anyone else had this issue and a work around please would be great.

Economy Reward, Premium Reward or Business Reward fare types are Reward Seats. If you used points to pay for any part of your booking and your itinerary says anything else, like Getaway, Elevate, Freedom, Premium Economy or Business, then you have an Any Seat booking.

To change or cancel your Reward or Any Seat booking please call our Membership Contact Centre between 9am and 5pm AEST Monday to Friday.

If you cancel your Reward Seat booking for travel up to 28 February 2022, we’ll waive cancellation fees. Changes to your booking must be made before the date of travel or before 28 February 2022 (whichever is earlier). The Points used for your booking will be refunded to your Velocity Frequent Flyer account. If your booking was paid in part by credit card, this portion of your booking will be refunded to original form of payment. Refunds will be processed within 21 business days. Refund amount excludes booking and credit card fees.

If you cancel an Any Seat booking for travel up to 28 February 2022, we’ll waive cancellation fees for Any Seat bookings credited to Travel Bank.

Thanks for that.

I cancelled a reward flight recently. It’s quick and easy and you don’t end up with your co-payment deposited in travel bank - you get a full refund. With status credits fairly meaningless for Gold and Platinum members until end of September, it’s a good time to use your points.

Last week (Friday) I changed a points and pay flight, simply from a non direct flight to a direct flight. The agent even said to me, he would refund to my credit card if I wanted and take the new balance from my Travel Bank or to our pay again using a credit card.
I took up the option to pay with Travel Bank.
Today I notice the refund fully processed on my credit card on Friday (same day).

In the conversation even the agent commented that points and pay is a better use of points than using points for the tax portion. The comment was there's a standard cash conversion rate for the tax which makes sense as they do have to pay all the fees with cash whereas the flight is really a deep discount from Virgin.

Yep next to no flying this last year and don't see how I will retain my status come September, anyway. No Europe travel for me until around mid-next year and next to no business travel locally for the next couple of months.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
