Ok here's the situation,On Friday I booked and paid for a 7 day break in Brisbane in late March/early April, rather stupidly I booked two seperate sectors, one on QF metal from ABX to SYD and the other with JQ from SYD to BNE,I don't know what I was thinking when I did this because I've only just realised (Well derr!) that no QF points are earned on JQ Jetsaver fares ,not only that but I have to collect bags at Sydney when I could spend the time better in the QP,so the question now is do I bite the bullet and rebook the SYD to BNE sectors on QF for a cost of $158.00 ,earn the 2000 points and not have to collect bags?,it will of course cost me the fare I have already paid for the JQ flight -$178.00 as it's not refundable, what are peoples thoughts-is 2000 points worth spending an extra $158.00,is 2000 points worth $336.00?
BTW if I do change it will mean an extra four hours in Syd as the first flight available at the $79.00 fare on QF is QF 548 at 19:05.so I would have to waste a bit of time in Syd.

Why not upgrade to Jetflex which will be $60 more than what you already paid at $239 for Syd Brisbane, you get the points and more SCs, still have to check in but at least its online so its bag drop.

Already thought of that, been on to JQ and they are quoting a difference of $400.00-that's the difference between what I have already paid-$178.00 and the Jetflex fare of $239.00 ,both ways, plus a change fee.

If it was me, I'd keep the cash to spend on entertainment at my holiday destination.

IMHO Not worth it (and the SC aren't cheap either at that rate).

I agree, not worth it at all.

Depends on what your objective is?

Is it to only collect FF points????

Or is it like me to travel more often??? If you are like me, then that is shocking deal. I only collect FF points when it makes financial sense to do so. F points aea key plank of my travel for pleasure strategy, but saving $$$ where I can is also part of that strategy.

If there is a great deal to travel sans-points then I will do so. If it is marginally cheaper then other factors like lounge access may sway me depending on the airlines inloved etc etc..

I'm going to Brisbane for a freinds wedding and I decided to extend a few days into a weeks break, initially JQ was cheaper and that's why I booked with them not thinking that there would be no points earned,I could use the extra points but $336.00 is a lot of money for 2000 points.

Like others have said above, hang on to your cash for more important things.

Can you just take carry on luggage to save you collecting bags & rechecking if sticking with the JQ option?

If you must checkin a suitcase, maybe book a QF cheapie SYD/BNE then put the current JQ booking into credit then use towards another JQ fare at a later stage?

When you checkin at ABX don't forget to tell them you are connecting to QFxx_ so they can link the bookings, issue both boarding passes & thru check your bags.

If you have two separate QF bookings don't OLCI, as QF won't be able to link the flights to thru check bags. The workaround is for them to uncheck you in (ie cancel accept you on both QF flights) then link flights before checking you into again & adding the bag. The potential here is it might all seem too hard & they'll tell you you'll have to pick up the bag in SYD & bag drop again.

If you're PS & above by all means allocate your seats at T-80 but leave the checkin bit to the airport.

2000 QF points would be worth around 10% of your $336 dollars.
If it was worth $336 every man woman child cat and dog would be swamping the system to get QF points.

I would say it is not worth it.

....that no QF points are earned on JQ Jetsaver fares ,not only that but I have to collect bags at Sydney when I could spend the time better in the QP,so the question now is do I bite the bullet and rebook the SYD to BNE sectors on QF for a cost of $158.00 ,earn the 2000 points and not have to collect bags?,it will of course cost me the fare I have already paid for the JQ flight -$178.00 as it's not refundable, what are peoples thoughts-is 2000 points worth spending an extra $158.00,is 2000 points worth $336.00?
Although if your heart is set on 2,000 QFF points then keep the JQ flights and book 4 different QF flights which will cost you ~$187.70 and earn 40 SCs and 4,000 QFF points. Can easily be done in half a day when you are in BNE and also spend some time in the Qantas Lounge. ;)

John K you must have read my mind,I have actually been playing with the QF website for the last few hours .was thinking about a mileage run on the Tuesday ,been thinking about BNE-SYD-CBR and return which as you say can be done pretty easily and at little cost.

I have just had a quick look at the routing I found the other day and availability is there for Tuesday 29 March 2011 leaving BNE ~10:00am and returning ~6:30pm for $176.70 earning 30 SCs and 3,000 QFF points.

If you need more details then send me a PM.

Availability at the cheaper airfares is slowly disappearing but I cannot purchase until tomorrow night (credit card cycle ending) and I hope the dates I want are still available.

What an awesome day that is too! :p  ;)

Late to thread, but to me 2000 QFF points is worth at least $40 - possibly up to $100 depending upon how I can redeem them.

So I concur with the other answers ... No!

Thanks Serfty, and everyone else who has replied, your contributions and advice are very, very much appreciated.
I have decided to take my medicine and stick with the JQ flights and I've booked a couple of side trips on the Tuesday as a mileage run and something to do with a free day.
The lesson from this is to remember that when it comes to FF programs and points it's not always prudent to book the lowest airfare, when it comes down to it I saved about $28.00 by booking the SYD-BNE sectors on JQ rather than on QF,but it cost me 2000 points and I've now spent more than that on booking mileage runs, next time I'll listen to the TA.:mrgreen::)
One question-if I take carry on only as a QP member can I check in for the Jestar flight in the SYD QP?
