Need to get myself a new mobile. Have been eyeing off Android phones (and recently Windows Mobile 7), and of course there is always that perennial favourite the iPhone. ;)

So, I know this is a broad question, but what smartphone do you have, and why do you like (or hate) it?

I recently caved and bought the iPhone and i love it... good apps, and yes it has shortcomings but hey it's an iPhone! i'll probably get another one for my next phone too.

Mal, I know you’ve tried many Apple products in your travels, so know what they’re like and their pros and cons, but what features are important to you?

luv my iphone, simple but can do so much.. son has a HTC Wildfire seems to have more to offer. after my iphone I think I will head to HTC.

TBH, just about any smartphone would satisfy most of my requirements (basically good screen, good camera, intuitive menu, easy internet browsing, prefer on-screen keypad, gps etc) so more interested in what others use and like.

I've always liked Sony Ericsson phones, and am interested in the X8 - but Sony Ericsson isn't that good with keeping up with Android versions. The HTC phones look nice, although I don't know about their support etc.

Can't answer your question, as I'm going through this myself at the moment. So will be reading everyones comments with interest.

ditto.
These are the 3 phones I'm looking at:
1) HTC 7 Mozart (Windows 7)
2) Samsung galaxy 3 (Android)
3) Apple iphone 4

Pls put me out of my misery as I can't decide...:oops::evil:

I've used HTC since they were Dopod (or Dogpoo as we called them from the logo), They company also made the iMates for a time too.

Almost everyone I know has loved them and had very little problems. Support is very good for them too.

I don't know about the others but I have no regrets that my family 'forced' me into getting an iPhone.

The battery life is the only down side for me but there are so many +v's that outweigh this. Charging from a USB also helps get around this problem.

I too have an iPhone. Never thought I needed one until I bought it. Now can't live without it.
Apat from the phone, I love the App store.
My main apps that I use are:-
2Do - for all my jobs and appointments , reminders etc.
Commbank Propoerty Guide - straight from Rpdata - for property values.
Commbank - for online banking.
My Eyes only - secure for storing personal details, banks, passports, credit cards etc
Skype
and a sensational app I found today called Dragon Dictation. Talk into it and it translates it to words that can be emailed, SmS .
and a few games to waste time with. Angry Birds my favorite.

I have a HTC Desire following recommendations from my sons, who are both technophiles. They switched from an iPhone 3 to the Desire.
I love the phone and keep discovering new features.

I can only speak for the iPhone, but I believe it’s still got the largest resolution screen of any phone on the market (feel free to correct me anyone), so at least you’ve got the good screen ticked off there.

I personally don’t buy into the whole megapixel count anymore, but some do, I find the photos taken on my iPhone 3Gs to be pretty decent. If possible you could test the different phones you’re interested in, or look for reviews about photo quality. I know the iPhone 4 now had HDR that takes 3 photos one after the other and blends them to create a better image.

I think you know your way around an iOs device, so the only sticking point might be your browsing experience if you’re really fond of Flash? :p

I am very happy with my iPhone. partially though that is because it integrates so well with the rest of my apple stuff at home (2x iMacs, iPad, apple TV) - I can easily move much stuff between all of those devices.

I like the closed eco system of the apple store - gives me a reasonable level surety about the quality of the apps (and by that I mean apps I choose to buy rather than the overall quality of apps e.g. fart apps).

One thing I am very keen on exploring when I move to IP5 is Facetime - video chat and whether that will be available over 3G here in Oz. I have family overseas and I will most likely buy my mum an iPod touch so that she can use facetime on her home network in Cyprus. It will also make travelling easier for me as I will be able to see the little guy whilst I am overseas.

Depending on your time requirements I would be now waiting for iPhone 5 which I expect to be thinner and lighter and probably faster.

Do you intend to integrate this into some corporate network? That might be an issue from a support perspective as many corporate IT teams are still TeamWindows irrespective of the real changes that have taken place in iPhone security.

I've got a HTC HD2. It runs Windows Mobile 6.5, Android and maybe Windows Phone 7 soon (without Live service), see this thread on xda-developers.

A work colleague upgraded from iPhone 3 to HTC Desire. Most people at work with Smartphones have either iPhone or Android. There are some Nokia around, and some Windows Mobile (since we develop some software on WinCE)...

I find that Android is better than Windows Mobile mainly because of the sheer number and quality of apps, but I still mainly use Windows Mobile, since I've been using it since the PocketPC days, and I find Tomtom better than any Android based GPS.

Note that Windows Mobile is completely different to Windows Phone.

Some of the Samsung handsets are equal to the iPhone in screen quality and are a little larger.

That said, this is flame war territory between handsets (like windows vs mac ;))

I'll freely admit to being an 'Apple Advocate' but I do try and look at things subjectively.

From the reports around the office of those with Android, is it's good but not nearly as polished as iOS is on the iPhone. Apparently the email client is decidedly average bordering on bad, but there are things like free turn-by-turn sat nav (courtesy of an upgrade from Google this week).

That said, after last w/end, i'm perfectly happy sticking with my iPhone. As of the latest iOS release for iPhone, Apple has made 'Find My iPhone' free for all (instead of previously requiring a paid subscription to their content service Mobile Me). I left my phone in a cab in BNE, was able to log-in to the Find My iPhone section on the Mobile Me website, track it, lock it, and send a message to it that displayed a message (and plays a tone) asking the cab driver to call me. A Passenger heard/found it, saw the message and called the BNE J lounge. It was returned to me in safe order (minus me being out of pocket having to pay the cab to return to the airport). This saved me a lot of heartache and headaches.

I know some of the other systems have similar options, but the ease of which this worked was excellent and reminded me of the whole Apple philosophy of ease of use and functionality.

Just don't get one on any network but Telstra. Once you start using data, you're not going to cope with Optus or Voda/3. Smartphones encourage you to use data, and Telstra's network really is 'the cough' when it comes to speed (There are lots of horror stories about Optus and Voda/3 on whirlpool if you want to look).

And I couldn't care less about Flash. Bloated, security-hole, memory hogging, CPU wasting software. The sooner the world embraces HTML5, the better :)

Good to hear it’s worked out well for someone. The only issue I have with Find my iPhone is that I can’t find my iPod touch in the house, because it’s dead and thus can’t be located :p

And I can confirm Optus suck, as I am with them, I do have a good data plan though that I hardly dent, but I am frequently dropped and have to enter flight mode to reset the connection and find a new one.

I have a Nokia E71 that I love, simply because I need long battery life and three days between charges is the norm. I was looking at an iPhone however my iPAD purchase has meant I no longer need to, its got the smarts I need re browsing and email without the penalty of a small screen.

All three devices, E71, iPAD and Tablet Notebook, give me a full days running on battery, so life is good :D.

I got the new HTC desire HD before leaving on my trip a month ago. It seems great, however vodafone sucks the big ones (coulnd't get my number ported before I left, so it stayed at home, and STILL hasn't ported!).

My previous (well, still current really) phone is the HTC touch 2. No problems with it whatsoever. Only upgraded because I threw a tantrum at telstra and figured I may as well get a new phone out of the change.

I use a Sony Ericsson K800i - I've had it since September 2007 and does not miss a beat. I did replace the battery about 4 months ago and now get 5+ days per charge.

My Service provider gives a $30 per month credit as I brung my own 'phone to the party ...

Shame you can't get them any more ...
