iPad 2 - so who has ordered/obtained one (or more)

Intrigued by the number of people that were able to walk in and buy - might try that next weekend if mine hasnt shipped already...

Initially I would've said you'd have a hard time trying to pick one up in store after last night, but I have heard of some Big W's and JB's who still have stock (in Melbourne). Wifi only, not 3G - which surprises me since I got the impression most people were getting WiFi only due to the personal hotspot in iOS 4.3 (I certainly did).

Failing that I imagine George St will be the most likely place to get replenished stock, but that will require a bit of time and effort.

Initial impressions are pretty predictable - faster and slighter, though it actually feels a bit more substantial in my hand; maybe because it is denser than the older one. I got white, so that makes for a bit of a change as well. Cameras are pretty woeful, but you wouldn't use them for anything more than a happy snap / clip on the fly (though it's arguable whether or not they're even good enough for that). Sticking with my iPhone or S95 for image capture. This one will probably only be any good for FaceTime.

When I was in USA in July 2010, I tried about 5 different cities, totalling to about 15 different apple stores (including their company HQ) and could't get one. Turns out they were in stock at home.

I bought two (one 64GB 3G and one 32GB 3G) in July 2010 from Best Buy in Eastgate, Ohio. (Nr Cincinnati). With credit card charges for overseas purchase the price was about the same as Australia. (I couldn't get my hands on one in Australia though!)

The Apple Store at Kenwood Mall did not have the 64GB 3G IPads but had all of the other variations.

Mark Twain was right about Cincinnati though. He wanted to be in Cincinnati when the world came to an end...only because it was 20 years behind the times!!! :)

Just a question about buying an iPad in the US. Am I going to have to add sales tax onto the price quoted by Apple on their website? I'm planning to buy in NYC where I hear that sales tax is usually not included on the sticker price

I had Mrs wtolmie order one for me in Milwaukee where they are staying ATM. Will have it in my hands here in Thailand April 9th when they arrive for a 4 week visit. Its already been shipped !! Cant wait to swap it over.. My 1st Gen will be going to wifey to use mainly for Kindle app so it dont go to waste.

I ordered 64Gb + 3G. White, with Navy Blue leather smart cover + dock.

When I asked about buying one at the 5th avenue store the sticker price was $500, yet with tax it was $543.... No idea if you can claim the tax back...

You can't. If you're lucky enough to visit a tax free state like NH, that might be the way to go - otherwise, you have to factor that into your price.

On balance, particularly with TRS, buying here works out to be better - especially since all but one of the iPads are now below the duty free threshold when returning.

I thought the most expensive one was $950 odd. Which would also be below the duty free threshold, since once you get the tax back the cost is reduced by that amount.

The outrage is a bit much but so are the "get a life" comments. I do like the comments about how bad the iPad 2 is as well from all these people that must have used one...

Heh, yeah, nothing seems to polarise people more than something with an apple logo on it.

... and there's a "get a life" comment there from someone in Wagga! I thought the locals here had a bit more decorum ....

I have been trying the reserve website for the past couple of nights with no luck- Trying exactly on 9PM and nothing - no availability of any version.

Damn Gadget Lust. I reserved one last night and am about to go pickup a 64GB 3G Black one. Now, to sell the old one:)

Tell me about it. Finally managed to reserve a black 32 Gb wifi last night, which makes my wife happy because she finally gets a chance to use the current one.

I know why one would want to obtain one, but why on earth would you want to smell it? :D

(Yeah I know, that description, too, is for a word of the wrong spelling, but I just say it as I read it, and that came to my mind...)

P.S. Another iPad/iPhone typing error?

Please report any threads that have errors that may detract for the message trying to be communicated, we can fix titles for such little things very easily as I have just done for this thread.

Alas I spoke too soon. Picked up my shiny 64GB 3G, bought it home, turned it on, and it has so much 'backlight bleed' it's useless. Booked in for a Genius Bar Appointment this afternoon to have it replaced. It's a 30km round trip to a Genius Bar. There's also a lot of reports of similar issues with them. Seems there may be a large QA issue here (in addition to the usual percentage of DOA units manufacturers expect).

Here's hoping the new one doesn't have the same issue (Here's a link to someone else's bleeding issue, which is near identical to mine:

(although I have the black one)).

Have ordered 2 and delivery is May 11th at $726 each.
Apple should have the first issue bugs out by then.
660 net of gst is ok for the 64 unit.

I reserved mine in Friday night and picked up yesterday. It really is great - so thin as to be almost like paper. I thought iPad 1 was great and scifi but to think that I am sat here with something thinner than a magazine is astounding. Mrssimongr has already acquired iPad 1 but has already reported feeling like a nerd getting it out in public...

Bad news for you drewbles :(

(Here's a link to someone else's bleeding issue, which is near identical to mine:

Mine looks similar, although if I hadn't have gone into a pitch black room and intentionally turned the iPad off and back on to get the black screen, I probably never would have known. Still unsure whether to return mine for a replacement or not, I only have bleed in to places, both on the short ends, so not going to cause a problem while watching movies.

Absolutely loving the new iPad though, far more responsive than the iPad 1. Zinio flips pages instantly now, I never thought the first gen iPad was "slow" until I used the iPad 2.
