Invited to participate in a QF Loyalty Virtual Focus group

1 Million is actually doable (without a business and without CC churning, but you have to be focused!!! You do have to put all household expenses through a non capped credit card and earn them everywhere you can (without being gauged eg. Qantas hotels and Car hire!) But P+ and 1 million points a year is achievable

Maybe for you although you must be spending bucketloads more per annum than I do; as without churning one would need to spend at least $750k per annum.

Im only a single person household and already cashless with every $ I spend being on an points earning card. At 1 - 1.5 QFF points per $ spent plus flying, red planet and other bonuses I can just get to PC (or churn one card to make it easy) and that is the sweet spot because you earn SCs on award flights.

But I couldn't get to PC+ without churning multiple cards and lots of wine, so I do not bother and zero chance of spending enough 1million points per year.

Yep I'm in the same situation - and as a retiree, churning cards is off the table. I will be lucky to keep PC in any given year, especially with the recent points devaluations/capping of points on m credit cards.

The additional 20K from QBR is a handy double dip. Effectively you can increase the points earned from flying and/or triple dip those bonus QBR points earned on QF Wine and QF Hotels!

Like others I’m quite interested in why QF would care whether tiered FF members care about PC or PC+.
There's probably plenty of tiered members who get status solely through flying, and possibly most of their points too (not if a government employee though - and a fair few high status members would be). Chasing their on the ground spend makes sense.

Nope, I guess I’ve had my chance…..

yes, received the invite and would want to participate but I don't live in Sydney and would cost 16000 points + $ to attend

I got it too and put my hand up for it. I have put my hand up for it before and I did not get a response so I will see if this time is any different.

I attended a similar, but probably different purpose, session. Mine offered 8000 points for a 45min chat.

I thought it was all about QFF programme and how it could do better…so I spent some time thinking about my recent QFF experience and how it could be improved…

NOPE. The chat all about the Everyday Rewards program and Qantas’ partnership with them.

“What would make you visit Woolworths more?”
“If they open a store closer to me than Coles and Aldi. “

“Did you know EDR converts to Qantas Points?”
“Yes. But you realised the earn rate is abysmal, right? Anyone serious with collecting points would be churning credit cards.“

“Do you use the QFF points to purchase items in the market place”
“No, anything other than flights would be a terrible use of my points”.

Have fun 😆

Very much a newbie to this forum, but wasn’t aware of any of this until I just logged in- fingers crossed we see some improvements.
I hope so too @MC4L but honestly I’m not holding my breath as they were evasive about any ch ages happening and any time frames.
And welcome to posting on AFF.

If anyone else gets this group, please mention SCs from points transfers!

But their maths is all wrong. We know that filling a vacant J seat on a return MEL-LHR route costs QF about $1,800 based on their any seat redemption rates exposing the value of 0.6 cents per point, and the maths of 289,200 points for a J classic redemption on that route. The revenue price for that route using sale fares is $9,500 - so they make a return of $7,700. That passenger might fly several times a year. Compare that with someone who spends a whole year amassing 1,000,000 points through credit cards and that's worth $5,000.
I would tend to agree that giving P1 based on an earn of 1 million points per year seems a little generous, although given AA allows people to earn Executive Platinum (their top tier) with just $US200k (~$AU320k) credit card spend it might not be too wild of an idea. AA's threshold is lower than $AU1m, but that's offset by the fact some of the benefits aren't available until you also fly 30 segments.

One way I could see this working is for the requirement to be to:
1. Earn 1 million points in a year to unlock the opportunity to redeem (buy) P1, then
2. Have the price of that redemption be 1 million points.

This would be roughly in line with the revenue generated by someone who wanted to earn P1 during a DSC promo. The benefit for the flyer is that they don't need to waste their time/annual leave flying the status run (although I suspect many people do enjoy the trip!), and the benefit for Qantas is that they can still sell the seat that the status runner was going to fill. There's also the added bonus for Qantas that unless this person didn't fly at all (and therefore had a 0 SC balance), they would need to pay the equivalent of all of the SCs needed, rather than just topping up whatever they needed under a DSC scenario.

Status run during DSC
- Best value per SC is roughly $3/SC (based on https://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/qantas-new-double-status-credits-offer-march-2023/)
- Need 3600 SCs for P1

The money paid by the customer (revenue) would be roughly $10800. The $3/SC example from the linked page was a Qantas flight, so all of the money paid is Qantas revenue.

Theoretical purchase of P1 status
- As per MrH's earlier post, the revenue per point is roughly 1.1c/point.
- If the customer had to spend the points on getting P1, there wouldn't be the need to offset the average cost of 0.6c/point, so the 'value' to Qantas of this scheme would be the full 1.1c/point (unlike the other scenario where you just needed to earn the 1 million points but were still free to redeem it on other stuff).

The revenue earned by Qantas in this scenario would be $11000 (1,000,000 points x 1.1c/point), which is roughly the same as the above.

Having said that, this option would only be accessible to the largest of whales - those who can earn well more than 1 million points per year to purchase P1 and then still have enough left to redeem premium seats.

The key difference is that credit card sign-up bonuses don't count towards AA status. If you had to spend $320K of actual dollars on a Qantas credit card (no sign-up bonuses to assist), the pool able to do it would be pretty small.

True - but if Qantas made it $1m though I would suggest that it would still be a pretty small pool even with cc sign up bonuses. Most of the ones I see are around the 100k mark, but maybe I’m out of the loop about the best offers these days.

It would take a pretty dedicated churner to get through 6+ cards (to earn the difference between 320k and 1m points) in a year.
