International flights cancelled until March 2021?

Don’t need to, It is a Ministerial determination made under powers conferred by the Biosecurity Act, and the Act also provides it is not a disallowable instrument. This is also the second time it has been extended; it can only be made for three months at a time, which is where mid December comes from.

Thanks, I thought so, my question was more rhetorical than anything, in light of the intense criticism of the Victorian government around extension of the SOE in Victoria (which is I know broader than the federal instrument).

We so badly wanted to come home to Australia for Christmas, Perth maybe or somewhere in Queensland... But I more and more doubt that this will be happening this year and I am getting more and more homesick 😭

With this latest announcement, I’m confused so can anyone clarify if the 17 or 18 December is the latest dates we can travel overseas?

Have a QF flight booked 15 December to Queenstown, with this latest news, QF cancelled NZ flights all the way upto 7 December, Why would this be?

Should we just continue to wait and see if this date is slightly brought forward?

Too early to tell anything. QF are probably hopeful that things will resume but its not looking likely. Even if we allowed outgoing/ incoming from NZ they may not open up for us. Its too early to tell what travel is like in a month or two let alone December. COVID is too unpredictable

And you can add to that, so are most of those who govern us...

Thanks for the update, being in Perth where we have normality, the situation on the East Coast is really going to dictate where we go with this.

The economical situation is paramount, by early November, hope we have a positive outlook for December or at least the new year.

Melbourne isn’t intending to take flights until ‘COVID Normal’ which is defined as 28 days without a case in VIC and without an outbreak anywhere in Australia. Probably not happening anytime in the next 6 months

The situation in NZ is also relevant, there are still community transmission cases being recorded there now. Agree re East Coast, if you’re transiting from say sydney it’s the WA border rules that would apply, as well as the international border rules.

cheers skip
