I don't need entertainment but the price for the stupid iPads is over the top given the time it takes to hand them out and then collect them again and what's with the $5 voucher? When do we get that? Is it a paper voucher or on-line or what, but it seems I didn't get one!

Are you talking about the $5 food & beverage voucher? There should be a code on your boarding pass that says "V05A", indicating $5 of credit. The FA should also have this noted down on their manifest (though I think they have only once actively asked me if I wanted to use my voucher).

Oh yes, so there is. Along with BA30, EXIT, LEGX and QFFP. So the general masses are supposed to know the JQ codes? Like there is nothing to suggest that VO5A means I can use that to get 5 bucks off a drink! I didn't try, but I assume they do sell drinks on board? If so, is it cash only or do they take cards?

What about if I use the iPhone for the boarding pass. Do the codes show up there as well?

Yes they sell drinks on board, and yes you can use the voucher towards them. (And they take both cash and credit card if the voucher doesn't cover the full amount.)

Totally agree, it's a terrible system but I suspect they intentionally do it that way so that as few people as possible redeem their vouchers...

As for the iPhone boarding pass... no idea as I've never used Passbook for JQ. But I would hazard a guess that the voucher code would appear on the screen that comes up when you select the "i" on the bottom-right hand corner.

Admittedly work wise I only fly JQ to AVV or MCY these days as there's no QF offering. When I'm on these birds I generally have no complaints as I've been fortunate and get A to B as expected.

Annually we take advantage of the SYD-HNL vv fares for $500 pp and to date have not had a complaint. Purchase meals / baggage prior ofc and each of the last 4 years on time or earlier each sector.

Sure check in is a zoo but you need to expect it when flying LCC.

And there it is people, theft by ignorance.

I've had a couple of good runs on JQ, direct TSV-MEL, but you really have to be organised and get your snacks, entertainment etc beforehand.

It's OK for what it is if you have to do it.

Dog, every time I've flown JQ the FA has always said how would u like to spend your voucher, they aren't hiding anything. If u spend more than the value of the voucher, u pay the difference, quite simple really. Not theft at all:cool:

Sorry forgot to say, the FA's have a list of all passengers who have prepaid, so they reference the list as the go up/down the aisle. Both the passenger and the FA have the info...

In upcoming flights, I've ordered a snack, which is already paid for, so how does one redeem the voucher with that? Also, I only saw food that could be pre-bought......no drinks, or did I miss them?

No one asked me how I'd like to use my voucher!

Then speak up and ask to use it. The system is not hard:cool:

My son just did BNE-MEL-BKK return, he bought the bundle, got what he paid for. People next to him didn't buy the bundle, then proceeded to buy ala carte on the flight and dropped a bundle...

Of my 8 JQ flights this year, I've been actively asked if I wanted to use my voucher once. The other 7 times the FA/s either didn't have their manifest with them or just didn't bother to ask.

No you're right, the system is not hard. However you're assuming people know the system. I did. let's face it I cannot tell a lie, I did know I was due a $5 credit, but being the antagonistic cough that I am, I wanted to see what would happen if I didn't speak up. $5 for F&B that I didn't really want, was a sacrifice I was prepared to make! But what it did show....in abundance, was that the FAs did not speak up and say "oh sir, did you know..........".

So your claim that "they aren't hiding anything" should be footnoted by "in my experience" rather than belittling those that have had a different experience. In "my experience" you're wrong. So please do not speak in a condescending way to me, because I know I speak for many others who may not realise they're due a 5 buck credit, no matter what your experience is, hence I agree, it's theft by deception! If it's not, why do they not just give everyone a $5 snack like VA does or even better still, remove the $5 from the ticket and let people decide for themselves if they want to spend it?

Apologies...

Recently did a SYD-MCY-SYD journey. First leg was offered leg room seats when I dropped off my bag for checkin. 13E/F were very comfortable. We used the $5 voucher for coffee and a muffin.

Return trip were in row 3 as selected, when we only wanted drinks FA suggested we combine the balance of each voucher and grab a snack. Didn't, but had no trouble with the voucher system.

Probably in future will travel QF on this route now they have deigned to return, but was happy enough with JQ.

Excellent response, and I'm glad they did in fact offer you what you were due. Trouble is for my route, QF is about $40-$50 more expensive than JQ. I have no issues with JQ terms. I do however, have an issue with JQ saying something is included, then not offering that entitlement during flight. Trust me in saying, if JQ do not offer said voucher, I'm thinking most people in the forward half of the aircraft will know. So be it. Serves them right for trying to be incognito about it.

The 350+ flights I've racked up on this sector were as pleasurable as any other short haul I've done. Avoiding the horrendous 4hr traffic induced parking lot drive to and from BNE + the 40SC/round trip :D made for a rather enjoyable commute.

To quickly update this thread, my second JQ flight was OK as well. Admittedly, I did get paged just prior to boarding and I thought "oh no, bumped already"! It turned out my chosen 1C seat went tech so they gave me 1A. I don't particularly like 1A as the slide protrusion in the door impedes the costly extra leg room space so I asked if 1B was available. I was told yes it was so I decided with 1C tech and 1B vacant, I'll keep my 1A and slide across when the cabin door shut. All went to plan perfectly and I ended up with the whole of row 1 (port side) to myself. I can't remember the last time I've had the whole of row 3 on VA to myself, so that was a definite plus.

This flight, the cabin staff happily dished out the pre-ordered meal (that's a bit of a play on words) and also asked me without prompting, whether I'd like to use my $5 voucher. All in all, so far, my assessment of JQ is definitely not as polished as VA have managed (even though VA are far from perfect), but horses for courses, the hard product seems very similar. One issue I do have with JQ are the seats. They're comfortable enough, but seem thinner and on both recent flights, I've certainly felt the row behind pax, lodging their foot into by spine or rib cage despite me not reclining. I can't say that I noticed that as being an issue on VA.

Luggage was prompt(ish) and I've since been sent a survey to ask my opinion of the flight. Was asked if I had flown TT in the past month but no other airline was asked about, so it seems they're very narrowly comparing themselves to Tiger, which I think is foolish given the fare I pay is more akin to VA (although I'm obviously in the minority with that choice). QFF SC/points haven't landed yet (2 days) , but they were pretty good last time (2 days over a weekend I think from memory).

Nothing yet to make me hate JQ.......you lot had me thinking I'd be one unhappy camper by this point. Hopefully it'll continue much the same!
