Dear fellow FF'ers,

After the most recent changes to QF FF I have decided to change FF programmes. CX is an option. I would be grateful for comments on what is good and what is bad about the marco polo club. I am currently QF WP and would like to maintain QWE status (which is now unlikely with QF).

Many thanks for your thoughts and comments.

To get from bottom to top of MPC (as they wont status match you) you'll need to fly 210,000 miles – as every time you git a new level your membership year resets – and there's no discount on requalifying each year, of 120,000 miles. If you fly CX, they look after their own very well, but if you don't, I'd consider another program. You should also take into account where your credit card points can be moved to, as points without status can make it hard to use them!

Thanks for the info. Thought re other OW loyalty programmes would also be welcome. AA is not an option as i do not fly to/vis the USA.

they probably wont status match you, but probably one level below WP->SG if you asked them nicely ;)

Helps if you can show some activity they like, still a slug to get to the top... and really only beneficial if you intend to fly CX a lot and send your points to Asia Miles.

By the way, if you want to link your facebook profile (under your avatar), you need to copy and paste the full URL (http://ww...) or else it wont work. ;)

yep i agree unless you fly alot with CX then it would be harder to achieve/maintain top status, with my flying pattern i still think QFF is easier to achieve as such

oh thanks! ;) but wasn't my intention to broadcast my fb hehe

UK, Europe, Canada, E Asia, ANZ

Those destinations would work quite nicely with CX's network, but you'd always have to fly through HKG. For Europe & Canada, that's not so much of a problem, E Asia could be extra travel time and NZ you'd clearly have to choose your flights well so you made sure the flights counted for some miles. But the most important thing there is that you'd need to fly 120,000 miles a year. There's probably a calculator somewhere but you need to add it up to see if it'll work for you ;)

What's has that got to do with what ffp you use? [Answer - nothing]
You can fly one airline and credit the miles to another airline FFP. Thats what alliances and ffp airline partners are all about

With CX you need to fly a lot at the pointy end to get high status and benefits. If you do its good. Many low cost CX fare's are low earning in CX and other FFP's

With BA (and QF) you need to fly 4 BA(QF) sectors to get/maintain status.
AA have the rule you need to fly 4 AA sectors to get/maintain status, but currently do not enforce this rule. Changes to the AA ffp in next few years as a result of the AA/US Airways merger/takeover would not be unexpected. For long haul awards hard to beat AA earn/burn.

BA is good for short haul awards, but has surcharges.

Compared to other OW airlines with QF it has been relatively easy to get status. Even with the changes for many it still will be. Will be harder for those getting a lot of SC's on non QF flights.

Be aware of miles/points expiry. CX asiamiles have a defined life.
Note that Marco Polo (status) and asiamiles (miles) are not the same (2 alinged programes).

You don't need to fly to/via the USA really to benefit from AAdvantage.

There's a member of this forum who achieved Executive Platinum one year without seetting foot on a AA aircraft or the USA.

Suspect BAEC may work for you given long haul flying
as others mentioned, maybe AA and given you go to Canada, maybe can tag on some AA challenge to get EXP...

How far off are you to retain WP?

Wonder how the exotic programs like TAM, Jordanian are...

here's a comparison i did between QF WP and MPC Diamond: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ent-flyer-program/qff-wp-vs-mpc-dm-55090.html

i chose to dump QF this year also as I do mostly regional and long haul flying on CX - getting to DM really is not difficult in long haul as you can do it on a mileage basis rather than status credits/zones.

mpc/asia miles does some things really well - like being able to confirm upgrades when an award seat is available and giving op-ups out a lot more frequently than QF.

the award seat points and taxes costs are much lower also.

Alaska is another good FFP, with a wide range of partners including QF, EK & CX. Unaware if AS have 4 segment or equivalent rule for status, but have not seen reference to it.. Miles earning is good with some low prices fares when the same booking class can be low/nil earning in other FFP's. But as always check

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Is this possible from Aus? Have they changed to rules or re-opened the ANZ programme?

You need a mailing address outside of Aus. Haven't bothered to look at the earning side of things as I'm happy to keep flogging the ATO/CC and direct to QFF.

Just a data point for those who may be interested, CX agreed to status match my QF WP to MPC gold (which I know isn't the same, but better than nothing).
