In February 2014 I used my QF points and booked 3 classic rewards in J for DXB-GLA flying on EK (one way only). Total charge was AED240 and I spent a lovely Christmas with family in Scotland. I logged onto the QF site this morning to search for availability in October 2015 on the same route and 3 J classic rewards (one way only) are coming in at a total charge of AED4440. I know EK and QF have mostly aligned the charges for awards but have I missed something obvious that would account for a price rise from around $80 to over $1500?

It's most probably fuel surcharges, they closed the loophole a while ago which let you book EK flights on QF points without paying the surcharge.
Although I thought the change was longer ago than 2/14 - July 2013 according to this article.

Booking this as a commercial fare through EK is showing the AED240 as the 'taxes and fees' and there is now an additional AED4200 'carrier imposed charge'. Looks like it is a $500 per person fuel surcharge on an 8 hour sector - seems a touch excessive? Possibly I was lucky with timing last February or the manual process of forwarding payment and ID to Qantas/dnata in Dubai saw the surcharge drop off?
