Inclusion of existing customer offers in credit card sign-up bonus articles

Sometimes banks will give reduced fees and/or custom sign-up bonuses for existing customers. Given that it is often easy to become an existing customer by signing up for a free transaction account, the cost of signing up for a new card for a bonus points offer can often be reduced by merely signing up for a free transaction account first. For example, at the time of writing, Westpac reduce the annual fee for their Velocity and Qantas Black cards from $370 to $225 (inclusive of the $75 rewards program fee) for existing customers. I think the inclusion of information about any potential for reduced fees/upgraded sign-up offers would be a useful addition to the monthly Qantas and Virgin credit card offers articles.
