In flight Food

anything lavish would have required more time and thus more "lights-on" time.

Not asking for a 3 course hot breakfast, is it too much to expect just some cereal and maybe a muffin.... all they needed to do is load a few boxes they use in Y class domestically and put them on some crockery and that would have been better ....... to be fair, maybe something went wrong in BKK, as we didn't even get hot towels after the 8 hour flight (got them on the SYD-MEL domestic sector though).

This was probably released to cover all the problems they were having with the IFE.

The only IFE problems I have experienced was on a 747 (VH-OJC) between MEL and SIN, where they had to reboot the IFE three times in the first hour before they got it working right. It worked the rest of the way to SIN, and all the way from SIN to LHR.

Funnily enough, this same 747 had the same IFE problem between LHR and BKK a few months later, needed rebooting four times before it finally worked, then worked fine to BKK, as well as BKK to SYD.

Since then, I have been on (according to my log book) 12 other QF 744's, 10 of which have the new IFE, and haven't had a problem with ANY of them. Have been on two of them on more than one occasion, so it is not that I have been lucky.

(All of this is since Nov 01).

Oh well, the IFE is based around a Windows OS & the reboot works quite well. Once the FA's get the hang of it, they'll be able to reboot just the individual seat.
Since the new IFE went in, the word around the traps is that bottled water consumption went up significantly.
I like the big screen and even though BA has the same IFE in their B744s it suffers some sort of noise interference. Clarity is nowhere near QF's system.

Anyone heard anything re : In-flight entertainment like Malaysian's (the games) etc. that you can play ? Surely, one of the OW carriers is going to emulate something like this pretty soon ?

First bit - now that's just vindictive on the FA's part. That is NOT fair and just plain rude on their part. To be honest, I've flown that many times that I know the safety briefing inside out - it bores me to death to listen to it (and I can foresee people nodding in agreement with me as they realise they know it all too well too).

I just put my head down and rest my eyes. Sleep through the briefing. Hopefully I'll never ever need to put it into practice.

Food in Dom Bus / Econ DOES walk all over Int, I agree. The red eye flights I've had from ADL-MEL and SYD-BNE have been great, go for breakfast in the QC club, get some more breakfast on board ; the food is not bad. The only deplorable bit is the coffee in Econ, which is more like varnish, so I leave it.

In Int, I usually leave the food because it's the 'mixed grill with an omlette' format and sorry, but I need tomato sauce on most of my food. Pass me the cereal option.

I quess nobody from QF reads these posts.October 2003 on BNE-LAX and LAX-BNE the food has not improved.The staff however still do a great job.
Pity they are let down by management.

Loved reading this post. Excuse me but if you want a good meal, wouldn't you go to a restaurant ? The last thing I expect on a flight is a restaurant quality meal. Seems many flyer's expectations are way too high.

Sometime the food is inedible though (thankfully I haven't had any inedible meal on Qantas yet, but I have had it on others, and I am not really a fussy eater).

On a 13 hours flight I dont have the option of going to a restaurant. I am paying upwards of $9000 - so yeah I have high expectations of the food...

Maybe and maybe not, generally i think the food is good, and i expect good food if i am flying J or F, not restaurant perfect but should still be good, for a lot of people that is breakfast or dinner, thats one of the reasons they pay the extra.
I used to fly MEL-SYD-MEL in a day often and my day was usually breakfast in QC, lunch while at work, beer/snack in QC and then dinner on the flight home. If 2 out of the possible 3 meals i eat in a day are on aircraft then it better be decent.

And the coffee in QC is ok , as for the onboard coffee in economy, i have no idea how they make it so bad !

A meal in cattle class could be brilliant but in the cramped conditions ? Even in J ? I lower my expectations and have yet to be really dissappointed in many year of flying.

A lot of times when I am disappointed it is not the quality its simply that what I have chosen does not come out how I expected it and as such I find myself picking at it.

The QF J food is pretty good mostly - on some levels it rivals the CX J food (I know people will hotly disagree with me on that ). Its been a while since my last QF J flight though and have been spoiled a lot in CX F

Yes I disagree - QF food even in business class not that good. Maybe I've been spoiled by SQ and NZ.

ashleyn - If I have over 30 hours on a/c and in airports in a row then I have no choice but to eat airline food. As simongr points out if you've spent a fair whack of money (or points) you'd expect the food to be decent. For domestic it is a bit different, but often the only chance to eat is at airport lounge (since 5am too early for breakfast and 10pm too late for dinner). This is why when NZ removed food from their domestic flights they made major improvement in the lounge offerings, and why sometimes I'll route indirectly from a regional airport in order to at least grab a bite on the way.

Sorry everyone but on my flights to and from the USA in J with QF, I found the food to be good. I wouldn't say great but it was good. I was quite impressed to be honest but that's just my opinion.

Maybe the good cabin crews made all the difference. I don't know?

Totally agree that I think Neil Perry should be voted off the island FOREVER!

I jst returned f class syd bk with QF and BA i thought the food was ok and good choice and i am always happy with J class meals domestically and int'lly.
I can't complain with a massive juicy steak better than nothing.

i have only had one complaint i had scone's with jam and cream on a qantaslink flght from mackay to townsville the cream was off and most of the flight ate it i was offered some wine and a voucher for dinner got the voucher no wine!!

the big thing that annoys more than anything with Qf is the in flight entertainemnt it is hoepless mostly doesn't work i have compalined and recv'd qf vouchers up to 500 but not everytime i complained i goto HK every 8 weeks and every second trip it fails.
