Loved reading this post. Excuse me but if you want a good meal, wouldn't you go to a restaurant ? The last thing I expect on a flight is a restaurant quality meal. Seems many flyer's expectations are way too high.
Agree.

I actually think most airline food is OK. I have also been in many restaurants where the food is very ordinary for the price paid.

The QF J food is pretty good mostly - on some levels it rivals the CX J food (I know people will hotly disagree with me on that ;)).
I don't know what the big deal is about CX J food! Flew CX J a few days ago and the food was not an experience I would rave about in the years to come. It served it's purpose of ensuring that I did not remain hungry.

I agree with JohnK. I'm happy with my Coriander Chicken for dinner. I don't expect a restaurant dinner, and my expectations are always met.:)

Just throwing in my $0.02 worth as well....

I have never come across an airline meal that has been inedible, and practically all my travel is in Y. This includes flights around Asia where I have no idea what it was that was served and the FA did not speak english so couldn't enlighten me either. For me, part of the joy of travelling is experiencing the local cuisine, and while airline food is not always authentic cuisine, it is at least an introduction to the region you visiting.

My only "BAD" meals have been on airlines such as AA - pretzels / peanuts / bag of mini carrots do not constitute a meal.

And then there's people like me (who some people say I have garbage guts) who will eat anything and thoroughly devour it - including all in flight food - and sometimes other peoples left overs. :)

I think its things like the kung pao chicken that are so different to what you get on QFQF. . I have some recent CX F menus that I might post here - now I didnt go the asian route for my meals and it was a mistake - I guess at that point I just wasnt in the mood - it had been a weird week for me.

The food in CX J is no extra special. It is consistently good, but not such that I would rate it as an outstanding part of the floght experience. In CX F it is a different story, where the Balik Salmon and Caviar with new potatoes is just wonderful and the Chinese Dim Sum for breakfast is the best airline breakfast I have experienced.

I like the way they serve the meals in CX J where they bring a trolley with the three options all plated and ready to go so you can see exactly what you are being offered before you have to make the choice. I often find that my imagination of the menu description and what appears on my tray are not always aligned. And many times the menu uses terms which I am not familiar with (yes, I am a bit of a Philistine when it comes to fine dining) so seeing it on the plate helps me to make my selection.

CX J is noted for its consistent level of service, unlike some other airlines where the service can vary dramatically depending on the crew you happen to get. And the best part is the beverage listing - with the Cathay Delight being just as it is named and they serve JW Gold in Business class (better than QF serve in First class).
