Hello,

I've been doing sin-syd syd-sin on economy for a few years now and at first I enjoyed the in-flight entertainment system of the A380s; however, for about a year now or so the A380s no longer do this route and I've had to use 747s (QF5/6).

All the times I used the 747s (except once) they were of the old variety (i.e. they didn't have the A380 type large touch screens).

I was wondering if the A330s (QF81/82) would be any different, or are the A330s also of the old variety?

[although it does appear that, according to Qantas's website, the A330s have the same outdated in-flight entertainment system as most of the 747s I've been on]

Also, while googling this I came across news that Qantas plans to upgrade its A330s which includes new economy seats for those A330s on international routes.

I'm assuming the upgrades of economy would include QF81/82, amirite? And anyone have any definitive dates?

Thanks.

All of Qantas' international A330-200s and A330-300s are fitted with the older IFE systems. Qantas announced a few months ago that they will upgrade all A330s from late 2014.

Ok, thanks for the reply.

Another question: is there a way of knowing beforehand whether the 747 you are travelling on is a refurbished version (i.e. with A380-like IFE)?

Thanks.

Yes, by looking at the seatmap via Expertflyer, Y starting at 43 is a good indicator.

Seat maps are a guide, so take them with a grain of salt. Flew on QF6 recently, was going to be a refurbed bird according to the map. Then to my surprise (and not the good variety) we were greeted at the aerobridge by OJA, the oldest bird in the fleet. Did the job, but the Y interior definitely makes it feel like a step back in time (a couple of decades perhaps!) :)

Seat Maps are a guide until they do last minute subs, which happen.
