I'm over (most) lounges

Which probably also tells you how long since the lounges were upgraded/modernised, compared to the commercial outlets in the terminal.
I'm still looking for my old mate Priority Baggage who maybe is still struggling to go round in circles, let alone get a good seat on board.

In my case it's any lounge will do! When you are an exclusive Y flyer, you can't look forward to the heady joys of J travel, so must do with what you can get in a lounge. Going to other carriers is not an option as the Y flyer will have to start at "0" again with no benefits whatsoever for some months, so the question of " Do I use the lounge or not?" can never be asked.

Except surely there are places where you’ve used the lounge before, so you know the general area of the terminal is a much nicer place to be? Like Hobart?

Never had a problem with Hobart!
I’ve most likely not been there near as frequently as you have … but last two times I was there while my better-half still had lounge access, the general terminal had heaps of seats where the QF lounge had none plus the general terminal had nice nibblies & drinks to buy where the QF lounge nibblies & drinks were dire plus the general terminal toilets had no queue & were cleaner. Apart from not needing to pay in order to get nibblies+drinks you just don’t want to partake in, there really was no positive to that lounge.

It's never been that crowded when I've been there. Seats available, no toilet queue and nibbles enough, or console yourself with a drink. Except for the last flight out before going home, I wouldn't consider lounge food, or airplane food, as main mean type, but then that's how I travel. Others may have a different outlook. The trick is sometimes to get to these small lounges well before the next scheduled flight. Other lounges may have similar feature,s, e.g. Mackay, Rockhampton (love the Tim Tams!).
P.S. I thought Hobart was having a make-over?

I have; your experience is typical. The Hobart QP has been awful for as long as I can remember. Nasty toilet, seats crammed in, often crowded (as in, every seat taken), basic F&B only. I'm usually out in the terminal. Rated Australia's 2nd worst in the AFF survey (behind SYD dom) 🤣 .

Its not really logical to get to the airport early just to get a seat in a second-rate lounge. But if you do score a seat - enjoy; it'll be packed within 30 mins or so.

The biggest problems occur when flights get delayed. You might have pax from 2 JQ and 2 QFs squeezing in.

With HBA having a long, long overdue reno and expansion, the QP has moved to a temp and smaller location. At least the terminal toilets are better than the QPs used to be!

There will eventually be a new lounge "slightly larger" than the old one (gee, thanks).
