Everything out of pockets!
Meaning the private SYD airport x ray person will see everything in your carry on bag wouldn't they?
Have to go thorough it later today.
No metal or any risky items of course.
Wonder if a passport in my pocket, would they mind?
AKL airport fies not have a Full Body Scsnner, but why pick me to do it on.
Hands up as if in surrender!!!
B@gga!
I dread that asoect if ny trip later on today.

It isn't as bad as what I'd thought it be.
All I believe the person sitting next to the screener sees is a red or green screen to indicate whether or not you pass through.

I know at MEL you do get the choice of one or the other.

MrP went through it a few months ago in Adelaide. Shoes off. Everything out of your pockets. The passport and boarding card is held by an official. The lady behind him who was Indian in a Sari had to go through it too. She had a young baby with her. The baby was held by an Immigration person and proceeded to scream. Fair enough as a stranger had suddenly grabbed her off her mum.

You must empty all pockets or all items - coins, handkerchief, used tissues, keys, boarding pass, travel documents etc. This includes passport. You can hold your passport, boarding pass etc in your hand.

Everything out, no passports in pockets.

When you come out the other side, you sand on a mat, while the operator waits for the okay (you can see the screen they are looking at too) green = on your way, red square(s) overlayed on a stick-person outline, means it detected an anomaly in that location on your body, so the operator will investigate. Depending on sensitivity setting, too much lint in a pocket could set it off!

I always take everything out of my pockets anyway even when going through the metal detector. Much easier to have everything already shoved in carry on bag in advance.

I'm the same. I usually just have my BP and Passport (if International) in my hand.

if you dont clear your pockets theyll make you do it when they see the objects on the scan at the other end holding you and the line up

Learned the hard way the first time. Everything out of pockets.

This time around I tried another trick. Stall taking things out, putting things into carry-on for as long as possible and then rush through normal x-ray after they have chosen someone for the full body scan and they are pre-occupied with them.

Not foolproof but I will get better at it like the explosives test.

I don't have a problem with them or the explosive tests. Meh. Takes 90 seconds of my life and someone get a tick in their quota book to charge back to whomever.

Im impressed NM still carries a hanky though.

Not sure what you are concerned about? For some reason, I have gone through it more often than the regular scanner and I don't have an issue with it.

Hankies are for wiping the tears away when you find out there's no Pol Roger on board!

No problems for me, been done 3 times now. Only been re-tested once after the machine picked up 1 coin which I had left in my pocket

And this includes any under-garment safety pouches for your cash (that caught me out first time through).

See, I thought the big advertising hype around the full body scanners was that the days of removing all metal from your pockets was over, instead it's gone the other way and not only is metal to be removed, but also non-metalic objects.
My experience with them has only been in the US, however each time I remember my passport got them upset.

I don't like it. It is intrusive.

I carry cash with me. It is in my wallet but could also be elsewhere on my person. Last time I also had 2 very expensive rings with me. When you go through the full Body Scan you are no longer in contact with your belongings. I don't trust anyone. Any delays and it could be 90 seconds or more before you are finished and you are facing away from your belongings. More than enough time for an opportunist thief or for someone to "accidentally" take something. Try getting it back.

There is no obvious opportunity for people to accidentally take things during the set up in ADL, well except the person taking you through the process. They take you goods and hold them in a separate area while you're scanned and then you get them back immediately. If something was missing then you'd know exactly who took it.

The issue I have is the number of 'false' positives that the machine produces. I do not recall a single occasion where I have not been 'felt up' after passing through one and it is rarely because I have left something in my pocket etc. I have had up to six locations show up on an individual scan (all nothing of course). A simple fold in your clothing will require a mandatory 'touch up'.

I argue that the current machines do not actually work to an acceptable level of accuracy and until the false positive rate is reduced they should be removed from service.

Yet I'm on 1/1 of not being felt up and the scan marked an area that the operator identified as being false when I went to check what was in that location (nothing). Varying experiences.

Have only used them in the US, no big deal and everything out of the pockets means just that, everything. Although having said that I have been through them and forgotten to remove my passport, the operator commented but let it go.

At the US airports I've used they put your items through the x ray in front you, everyone there is going through the scanner so just like people going through the metal detector, just wait your turn.

So while security of my personal items is in the back of my mind it's so quick you're normally out the other side while you belongings are just coming through. I'd be more worried about another passenger inadvertently picking up something than the security staff themselves considering in the US there is almost security people watching security people.
