Seems to be, or banjo players :)

He wears fingerless thinsulate gloves now in winter and had no problem in Scotland but its more for worse case scenario of wind and rain, especially at night or when closer to waterfalls. One waterfall you can go behind the water veil in rain gear.

Just ordered photographer gloves for hubby via B&H plus a few other gadgets he wanted to try. Cant believe I just spent that much money on gloves

Next month I will look at the merino socks, pick up a little bit each month and I wont be as shell shocked by the preparation price.

Already got fleece lined pants, puffer vest, gortex jacket and rain pants for just in case.

I bought the various things I needed for my trip to Norway earlier this year in small bites. It did make life a little easier, rather than in one hit. And they will hold me in good stead for the trip to the Outer Hebrides next Feb!

Ordered the gloves from B&H on Tuesday and delivered by 9.30am Monday!

Got hubby 2 different pairs, these ones more for standing around for longer periods at night/wind Vallerret Ipsoot Photography Gloves (Extra-Large, Black) #17111 and this for day wear Freehands Men's Stretch Thinsulate Gloves 11121MX B&H Photo. First pair made in Norway (cant believe I spent that much $ on gloves!) and is still flexible to manage camera/get stuff out of pockets ect but lined and warm.

Also got the plastic rain covers for waterfalls/just in case.

VERY happy with delivery - better than Aussie post.

Glad everything worked out well. We have always been very happy with B&H - only bought online once to send to AU - mainly bought in store :D And agree with anything I buy in the US it arrives quicker than buying here !!
Pull up your socks Aust Post :mad:

Thanks, will hubby to pick up a printed copy as we cant access online.

For scuba diving, we've decided to bite the bullet and pay for private trip/guide - just so we dont have to waste time/energy waiting on less experienced divers. Now he has to dust off his old drysuit, check the seals and get about 10 drysuit dives in the next 6mths - in an aussie summer. o_O

And with some help from the chat thread, Im a few clicks away from buying incredibly expensive Possum & Merino socks ($40+ a pair!).

I found possum and wool socks unacceptable as they stretched and become useless. I still find SmartWool the best. Warm, easy to wash and resilient.

Thanks and will check Smartwool socks as well.

Maybe layer socks? Im thinking about at night when we're standing around for a couple of hours in wind and cold.

It is the Smartwool mountaineering socks I wear all through -6C in a CBR winter and in Iceland and Greenland. In Greenland they have beautiful garments made from the soft underwool of Musk Ox. Beautifully soft and very very warm, but very expensive. The Warmest Socks, Gloves, Hats and Scarves

There is a TA thread about sitting in a thermal pool and watch for the lights warm and romantically. ;)
It sounds silly, but a few people say on page 2 that it's possible.

I read the whole thread Denali and it brought back lots of memories of our recent cruise around Iceland. Didn't get to the Blue Lagoon but did bathe in the thermal pools at Myvatn. If you are driving you should be able to get there. However as someone else said there are lots of pools around Iceland. I also agree that Jokulsarlon is a highlight of any Iceland tour. I put some pics into my TR "Godann Dagin" etc. We bought light ice spikes from a ski shop in Sydney for our earlier Hokkaido winter tour and they cost around $15 and did the trick on ice and snow there. They stretch over quite big boots and are light enough to store if you don't happen to use them.

I was wondering if I should get some cheap shoe spikes for just in case so many thanks. I guess I can always leave there/donate if its too much stuff. As Im preparing for the worse, I was wondering if there is a shelter we could donate some stuff before we leave (like fleece pants and snow pants).

Gosh, $175USD for a pair of socks, think I will stick to the Possum $50 pairs
