So my flight on Latam from Santiago last Saturday got cancelled. These things happen, we had to turn around due to a sick passenger. The issue was how poor Latam handled it. Essentially Business class got told to go to the Signature lounge. Now its a really nice lounge, it has a small section with beds in it. I managed to grab a bed for a few hours. Of course when I relinquished the bed thinking i've at least had 4 hours average sleep, little did i realise I'd be in that lounge all day, partly because i didn't want to leave as i had no confirmed onward flight. I spent most of the day nagging the lounge staff to get a response.
There was a small expat community of aussies in the lounge all checking in on each other which was nice. Food was ok, plenty to drink, coffee was good, I got a nice recliner chair and the showers were good also. As far as lounges go it was one of the better ones I've been to so that is at least a good thing. In Hindsight I should have got to a hotel, but didn't feel like i could trust Latam to fix the issue without constant checking. The Holiday inn filled up within a few hours of the cancelled flight.
I spent a tad under 24 hours in the lounge! Prob not a record, but doubt many people have done this before, probably because they gave up early and just got a hotel, which is what i should have done.
