I just made QFF Platinum today :) thanks to double status credits promotion and ANZ black card offer :)

I fear it will be my one and only time so had to brag about it.

Totally understandable reaction to come here - families seldom "get it"!

Congratulations ... !!

Regards,

BD

I've always travelled with my wife and three children and never had issues entering the FLounge. In fact we only flew out of Mel last month and had no issues, even though the two of the 3 children are now adults. Perhaps I've always been lucky.

Hear, hear, and congrats!

I just logged in to find myself elevated to the lofty heights of WP as well. I like DSC promos almost as much as I like J sales!

Thanks to the FF changes at AA and CX and motivated by the unexpensive exCAI xONEx fares I gained QFF WP about a month before you.

No thanks to QFF crediting the AA codeshare PHL-DOH on QR in D class as flexible economy. I asked about that and after about three weeks, am still waiting for a reply. Though I did finally get the "extra" points (business versus flex Y)

One of these days I will call as ask why... In the meanwhile any suggestions?

Happy wandering

Fred

Seems quite a few make WP (or other status levels) using the double SC promotions when otherwise they would not get there. I think that is great! But where are the accolades for Qantas for enabling this? All I seem to see is whinging about "simpler and fairer" and so forth....

Those of us who attained WP because of the DSC are very grateful. Those who earned due to high travel and cost esp in Dom Y flights have a right to question when they see their value diminish. And a couple of airports - eg ADL have no Business Domestic lounge. Hell, we don't even have an international lounge past immigration.

To be fair, I haven't whined about QF for some time, but remember that QF do these for a reason, be it running up numbers at a quiet time or countering a competitors sale and it is also not lost on me that QF gained use of my money for a considerable period before they had to provide the service bought. I'd be happy to sing their praises when they forward me the cheques for the interest on that cash! ;)

On AFF yes, but one wouldn't think AFF members are a good representative of the entire QFF membership base.

Those on AFF are more likely to seek to take advantage of promotions than the general population.

May not have gone back far enough, but hope this thread is the right place. My wife dropped from WP to LG in March when she fell short by 15 points to re-qual. Despite a plea in writing, and a call to the CC, they wouldn't budge. She had a couple of OS trips in J since, with the usual number of domestic trips as well, and was up around 1800 SCs by May. Lo and behold this week, a new set of Platinum QTags and Cashcard turned up:D. As her annual date is 28FEB, we thought she would have to wait until Feb 18 for the new status to come into effect, but her new card takes her thru to Feb 19. Is that the norm, or is it case by case in these circumstances?

No that is the norm. If you earn enough to attain a higher status it applies pretty much immediately, for the rest of your current status year and a full 12 months thereafter. Sensible policy in my view as it encourages flying sooner rather than later.

Full disclosure - double SC promotions helped me get to P1 earlier than I otherwise would have on two occasions. But the main reason I sometimes whinge about these promotions is the effect on J and F lounges. Someone who would ordinarily qualify for SG is travelling enough to help make the already crowded lounges overcrowded and at times impossible to find a seat.

It also, of course, leads to a diminution of services to that level.

Edit: But genuine congrats to the OP. If you can get there, good on you.

Yeah whilst you'd have to wait a few weeks or so to get the card the status would update on QANTAS's systems pretty much immediately.

Not disagreeing with you, but I know a whole lot of people professionally and personally who jumped on the latest DSC offer but have no knowledge of AFF. If you get the email and take a minute to look through the status levels, it doesn't need AFF expertise to work it out.

True, but one would think AFFers would make more economic use of DSC than most and are more likely to use tricks to get extra value out of it.

As someone who would never have yet been WP without these promotions I love them. Wondering about going for P1 sometime to experience what that's like and to move towards LTG at a faster pace.

IMHO there's a whole wide world of status travellers some on AFF and some who have never read or contributed here that know and make the best use of various promotions including DSC.

There's possibly a great discussion to be had on that (maybe via another thread) and I'm sure you are correct, however I am constantly amazed at the number of my work colleagues (some travel considerably more than me) that struggle to retain SG on just one airline as they're always looking for the cheapest flights without factoring in the many variables (the status perks being one). Many also struggle to retain any hotel status as they use company discount (non-earning) rates, when keeping an eye on sales can achieve cheaper rates that actually earn! I've mentioned this fact to a few and I'm usually met with looks of bewilderment laced with envy, especially when I show them photos of an AU$1300/nite absolute beachfront villa in the Maldives, coupled with an AU$2700/nite overwater villa with private pool that we secured predominantly with points ... and then throw in for good measure, that the flights there and back as well as a week long driving holiday in the UAE was also predominantly paid for with points! Mention things they've missed out on, like the classic Hertz and VS faux pas or the VA transcon perk earning redemptions in J for just the taxes and zero points and the envy starts becoming more noticeable!

Big congrats - I know the feeling. I just ticked over into Platinum this year and did the happy dance around the office - similar to the one I do when my request to upgrade to Business Class is approved, but a little more fancy. However, the staff have asked that I don't repeat it again, something about being unseemly at my age. I intend to use it to the fullest as I'm not sure whether I'll do the same mileage this year, but who knows. See you around the traps

If you danced like this I don't blame them for not wanting to see it again. :p

I got WP for what I thought could be the only time last membership year then retained it this year and I'm already planning to retain it again next year. You may surprise yourself especially if you can make use of DSC promos again. If everything worked out perfectly (multiple work trips and multiple leisure international trips in the one membership year) I may even be very tempted to go for P1 (I suspect if I get that it would be for the one and only time).

I too would suspect AFFers to be more likely to take such offers up and utilise them fully but I still think we'd be the minority.

As for P1 - read that thread to see how inconsistent the benefits are. It's 'nice' to have but been pretty worthless to me. I sure wouldn't chase it. LTG is only of use if you are going to drop below SG anytime soon. It too isn't worth chasing unless you are in that position.
