I have a few NZ flights coming up, (and some QF ones too), both will be TT - to NZ...

So, on the blurb that QF has, and I think NZ too, on their website, it says that we are supposed to print out etix and bring them to the airport.
But with NZ now allowing OLCI, and QF and EK too, ...
Do any of you other colleagues when you travel TT ever get questioned about whether you have the etix with you?
I have been to NZ twice, and each time, I just had to provide my passport, they didn't ask to physically see the etix printout, which is a waste of paper and ink.
Through my naivete, one time, I even pulled out the etix to show at (outgoing) passport control, but the Aust C&BP guy said I didn't need it, just scanned my passport, took the outgoing pax card, and that was it.
I asked for a passport stamp, and was told that they didn't do that anymore.
And ask at incoming if you want he said, but when I came back to Aust, I used Smartgate, so no stamping either.
But thats another story.
On this current line of thinking, anyone ever been demanded to show an etix? In real authority, not a scam job that is.
Thanks.
I am thinking of just writing down my PNR number down on an A4 piece of paper and ensure I don't loose my passport/outgoing pax card...
This travel thing is getting to my head.
I have the NZ flight in Jul, coming back with EK (QF etix in printed form, (yes, I know, this is the VA subpage)... but later on, do I have to print out the etix for future international flights.

eTicket? Haven't printed one of those out in years, Dom/TT/Int.
Worse comes worse, I can pull it out off my iPad, but haven't had to. ID (Drivers Licence or Passport, depending on where I'm going) and destination/flight time suffices.

Even if I wasn't using SmartGate, I wouldn't expect my passport stamped on either end of the Tasman... Cause really, when we boil it down, it is just Australia/New Zealand.

This place is good!
Ok. Ta.
Will use up the etix I have left, and then use ipod if asked, will save it to "home screen".

I have been asked by a QF staff member to see my etix when I had some trouble checking in on the self service checkin machine. If you read the top few lines of your etix you will find "Each passenger travelling needs a printed copy of this document for airport security checks". Further down on the same page it states "Ensure that each passenger carries a printed copy of this document when travelling." It never hurts to have a paper copy of your travel plans. I know that you can lose a piece of paper but you could also lose your ipod (or accidently drop it in a sink full of water).

I know that you were referring to flights in your original post but I was at a hotel check in and the guest being checked in at the counter beside me did not have his printed copy of his reservation and reception couldn't his reservation for the night he claimed to be booked in, they said that he had booked his accommodation for the next day. He was pulling out his laptop to retrieve his emails and his battery was flat :/ I don't know how this case resolved as at this point he was stuffing around looking for his charger in his luggage and I was heading off to bed (checking in at about 2300hours).

To keep the paper clutter to a minimum I don't print up the conditions part with how much luggage you can take etc (after all I am a one-bagger and can get by on one bag and 7kg) I just print up my etix for my flight/s, I print up my hotel receipts or if I phoned a booking through I will have the name of the person who took my call, the date and time I phoned to make the booking and I also reconfirm my intention to stay 24 hours out again taking note of the name of the staff member assisting me, the date and time of my call. I line up my hotel stays in order and as I go from one place to the next I take out the sheets and put them to the back of my pile. I also keep a copy of my travel insurance document. When I print up my annual policy there is a page that says you need to keep this with you when you travel. It has the policy details and all the emergency number I think I would ever need. These are the papers I usually carry.

The only other thing I would print and carry with me would be fare conditions or baggage allowances *IF* there was a chance that I was going to get stuffed around like if I was travelling part of my journey with a LCC. Just a couple of weeks ago a friend of mine was caught out by Aegean airlines. She was told by her TA that luggage was included but at the check in counter she was charged for luggage as Aegean are now a LCC and they now charge for luggage. She paid 45 euros per bag for everyone in her travel party. She told me that she has a copy of her etix/itinerary, but really if she did why wouldn't she just pull it out and show the check in agent? Nope, she is looking to the TA to organise a refund (good luck with that). Why do it the hard way?

I keep all these papers in a plastic slip like these here: Keji A4 Sheet Protectors 100 Pack | Officeworks I like to use these slips as I can fold the sheet protector in half if need be or I can keep it flat. I tried these: Keji A4 Sheet Protectors 100 Pack | Officeworks but I found them too bulky.

Naturally YMMV but I would rather have a copy of my travel details and not need it, than need to have a copy of my travel details and not have it.

When travelling to New Zealand, it's a requirement for foreign passport holders to show your return ticket out of New Zealand. Since Australian citizens and permanent residents can stay in New Zealand indefinitely, we don't need to have return tickets but in all other cases, check in agents and New Zealand Customs may ask you to present return ticket unless your visa condition has "outward passage waived" in it.

I travel with print outs but I like paperwork. Each trip I have planned has its own plastic folder like the above links with itinerary, hotel address including addresses in local language, contacts, etix inc fare rule etc. I have about 8 of these folders on my desk at the moment, I'm a planner.

As far as passport stamps, I'm sad we don't get as many these days, as a kid it was cool looking at them so it's a lost joy. A couple of trips ago, NZ immigration hunted for a stamp for my husband and ended up giving him permanent residency in error.

When travelling on a scuba trip, I carry the sporting allowance rules and it's saved us money over the years.

I travel with print outs, hardly ever need them but on the few occasions I have they have been worth thier weight in gold.

As an aside, for flights, I pity the poor trees giving their life for paper to be printed on for "what ifs".
For me, re hotels, I am the mug they always ask photo id from!
They never ask for paper proof of my hotel booking.
I will go paperless, after the current lot is used up, and cry my sad dog eyes if they insist I show paper etix.
Thanks all.

Smudged pp stamps.
Half hearted only partly stamped stamps.
Barely viewable stamps.
Yair, sad to see passport stamps gone from developed countries.
At least Asian countries still are crazy on passport chops or stamps!

Wait until you try to check in to a fully booked hotel and they "can't find your booking" - no internet so can't look up.

Printed confirmation fixed issue, but it took 40 minutes ... FWIW, my booking was there but under a completely different name ??!?!?! (The reference # and email address aligned however.)

I print double sided up to 2 pages so max 1 sheet.

I always have printed documentation for everything - in fact usually a spare copy in my checked baggage. I'm happy to sacrifice the odd tree to ensure trouble free travel. It's a bit like insurance - you may never need it, but you wouldn't travel without it.
