Hi Everyone.
After posting here earlier about being really, really nervous about flying I have now gone & returned from Europe.
Thanks to all here who provided such encouraging messages of support.
Please let me tell you the story.
I got to the airport, checked in and 10 minutes prior to final boarding, I froze. That's it, I couldnt go on, told my family, told the check in people, I would not go on that flight. My family were devistated. I left the airport alone and just caught bus after bus, wandering the streets in shock. What have I done was all I could think. I was a total wreck.
My 19 year old daughter was very, very supportive and helped me a lot. Two days later we were booked on another trip to London, thanks to some great Qantas staff, very helpful and considerate. Well I got that QF 1 flight in Premium and it was great, yes Great !!!!. It was nowhere near as bad as I had imagined. In fact you kind of forget you are in the air. Yes it was long, but quite managable.
Now, I did take a 5mg Valium on take off and that helped. However, I am so glad that I have now done it that I want to go again next year. I have seen London, Paris & Rome. I am a better/different person for that experience.
BTW on the flight from Syd to London the Captain made an announcement that the plane was delayed "as 2 passengers had decided they didnt want to fly with us so they have left the plane & their baggage was being removed". So they actually got on the plane & then got off. I didn't feel as bad.
Finally, I know Qantas get a lot of cough, but I would fly with them again, they were terrific, we had smooth lovely flights there and back. The cabin crew though were iffy but who cares, as long as the captain gets us safely there, that will do me.
So will definately do it again & I am so glad my kids will have the lovely memories.
Thanks all again.
