Hyatt loses Coolum

Clive wants to make it into a casino.

How long will this take to make it happen.

I wonder if any of the documents would have been lodged yet.

Treading in the shoes of James Packer and not happy with making his fortune from mining, Clive wants to emulate him. Good luck Clive...

Packer has never really been in to mining.

A big chunk of his wealth has been made from Media.

I think he has lost some wealth due to Casino's.

Yes, James made it on the back of his fathers' Media empire, whilst he tried to lose a chunk with OneTel (always a great learning experience to lose a bit along the way, on learns more from your losses than your wins). He has "lost" some value on paper, due to his timing of getting into the Casino's; but in the medium to long term, he'll probably do okay when the GFC fades to a distant memory.

Now can Clive convert the Hyatt Coolum to the Palmer Resort & Casino...

Interesting to see if this floats. They are quoting SIN as a success when you add a casino or two......what SIN has achieved is remarkable in regards to visitor numbers & revenue.

With only two casino SIN has exceeded Vegas and it's 39 strip casino's in revenue:shock:

On the CH 7 news tonight Clive denied he planned a Casino for the Sunshine Coast and said it would be detrimental

Given his political leanings it wold be unwise for him to be telling porkies.

First day under the new brand, and job losses:

BILLIONAIRE Clive Palmer's Coolum resort is rolling out major staff cuts only months after he praised workers and awarded each of them a $500 bonus.

The premier Sunshine Coast resort today marks its first day free of ties with former manager Hyatt.
An expensive upgrade and brighter future is planned for the luxury tourism drawcard, but its previous workforce of 650 is being drastically scaled back.
Department sizes have been slashed and dozens of staff, some who have been with the property for more than two decades, made redundant.
The Courier-Mail understands 20 of the 30 housekeeping positions will go, along with four of the six full-time gardeners, eight laundry workers and five of 10 hotel housemen.

The place hasn't made money for years. Can't pay staff if you're not making money!

And can't make money unless you are paying staff :) Seriously, I don't think there is any doubt that Clive knows how to make money. I am not sure he knows how to make money in hotels.

Touche! I'll re-phrase.

You can't afford to pay a staff roll of 650 doing the work of 450-500. FWIW, I've no idea what the ideal staff number should be but, I know that the number (450-500) has been thrown around locally.

Hyatt, were having a grand time pocketing 3% regardless of the profit or loss.....unfortunately the place hasn't generated too many profits.

Whatever happens it will no doubt be interesting to watch the progress. :)

I'm hoping the green fees drop - I'm yet to play there and yet I've stayed there 4 times!
