What are the main benefits of this card?

Hopefully there are transition arrangements for those with star gold for 2 years on aeroplan. Cause according to the rules your status stops when the card is closed.

You should still be able to get your gold status for one (or two with AC) years.

Ooh interesting, I have until August 10th to decide where to set my Gold Status to. Aeroplan might be the best as suggested by @MEL_Traveller earlier.

I note this on the Star Alliance Rewards page:

In any qualification year, you may only claim status through a single Status Airline. If you change your Status Airline after you have claimed Star Alliance Silver or Star Alliance Gold Status, the change will only be effective for any status you may receive in the following qualification year.

I've currently nominated Krisflyer, my anniversary is February. If I switch to Aeroplan now (something you've been saying all along!), by the sentence I've bolded, do you think I'll get Aeroplan Gold through all next year? I would get Gold next year, except the card won't be around then to facilitate that.
